Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES HOLUBOWICH
Jim passed away suddenly on July 10, 2024, at the age of 81, at home with his wife Linda by his side.
He will be dearly missed by Linda (Moroz) his wife of 59 years, son Darren (Lorraine) and grandchildren, Lesya, Francis and Meara, daughter Corinne (Brian), sister Pat Watson and nephew Trevor Watson, sister Veronica Bagot, niece Jodine (John) Szabo and great-nephew Dane and great-niece Elly. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Nellie Holubowich. Jim also leaves behind numerous extended family and great friends.
Jim was born at St. Boniface Hospital and lived in Cooks Creek until 1947 when his family moved to Oakbank, where his father opened a blacksmith shop that later became Carl's Sales and Service, a farm implement business. Jim joined him very early on learning the blacksmith trade and worked alongside his father Carl, his mother Nellie, and brother-in-law George Watson for many years. In 1965 he married Linda and they had two children. He enjoyed watching them grow up in the community and especially attending all of Darren's hockey and football games. Spending all those years on Main Street working with the family business, his presence was also felt in the community. Jim was a friend and trusted neighbour to many.
After retiring, Jim spent many years keeping himself busy with countless projects. He worked with the RM of Springfield, often helping neighbours at his shop, and clearing snow with his beloved Kubota tractor. He also forged the crosses in Cooks Creek and Zora Cemeteries. Jim and Linda eventually built a home just north of Oakbank and there he was in his element welcoming friends into his shop and his beautiful yard, which he loved to keep in pristine condition with help from Linda. He loved a good road trip, but mostly he loved to stay close to home and drive around nearby fields to look at all the beautiful crops as they changed every year. Jim was very proud of his three grandchildren, and was happy to see his grandson Francis following in his footsteps after spending his summers in Grandpa's shop.
Later in life he developed a heart condition that slowed him down, but he never tired of seeing his friends and family. We are especially grateful to our wonderful neighbours: Jackie, Pam and Tyler, and the first responders who helped us immensely through this difficult time.
For accessibility reasons Jim's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the OakBank Baptist Church. 26033 Springfield Rd 63N, Oakbank, MB. Jim will be laid to rest at the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery in Cooks Creek.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba would be greatly appreciated.
