DONOVAN CHESTER STEWART

December 4, 1953 - August 24, 2024

Suddenly on Saturday, August 24 my dear Donnie passed away after a short fight with cancer at St. Boniface at the age of 70.

Don has left behind Barb, his wife; his daughter Tammy (Kelly and grandkids, Brady and Brooklyn), and stepsons, Scott (Marcella and grandkids, Alyssa and Mason), and Tori (Nicole and grandkids, Carl and Keira). Don Deeply loved his family. He was a precious Papa.

Don has two brothers, Glen (Carmen, Chad and Mir, their children, Mia and Max, Troy and Trish, their children, Makayla, Ophelia, and Callum), his twin brother Dave (Carole) - they were extremely close (Sean and Erin, their children, Tyler, Tru, and Taes, Brett and his children, Sophie and Chloe).

Don’s daughter Jodie has passed away and his parents, Chester and Dorothy Stewart. Don was a farmer for 14 years in Dominion City. Later he moved to Winnipeg and was a grain trader at the Commodity exchange for 20 years. Donnie has always done carpenter work. When the exchange closed he was a full time contractor. He really enjoyed his work. Over the years through his business he has met so many terrific people. Don really cared about his friends. He spent time on his phone everyday talking and sharing with them. You all know who you are and that you held a very special place in his heart.

Don is having a Celebration of Life on Friday, special friends and family only.

Thanks to the Victoria Hospital Urgent Care and to the doctors and nurses at St. Boniface.

In Don’s name you could donate to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Donnie is the love of my life.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • My sincerest Condolences to your family and his dearest friends, one of which was my brother-in-law Bob (Michele). When I needed a carpenter to fix my deck, Bob recommended Don whom I also knew from growing up in Letellier, MB. My fondest memory of that time he worked on the deck was a conversation we had about never being bored because we found things to do that nurtured our creativity. Our generation did not have to be on the phone to be fulfilled. I remember his facial expression, smiling and determined in that moment. Don found a great solution to repairing the deck and for that I have always been thankful to him. May you find solace in all the help he provided so many people over the years and know his love for you all was strong. - Posted by: Mona-Lynne Ayotte (Friend) on: Aug 31, 2024

  • Our deepest condolences to the Stewart family. I meet Don a few years ago at our local coffee shop and became good friends. When I retired a year and half ago Don was instrumental in helping me sell off some of my equipment. He was a kind and knowledgeable individual. He will always be remembered by all of us coffee shop group. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Tom Masi (Good friend ) on: Aug 29, 2024

  • The man who wins the lifetime award for the kindest eyes and warmest smile, was taken far too soon, too fast, and far too young given his ambition and strength. I cannot begin to tell you what Donnie meant to our little family. My boys think of him as a bonus grandpa and will miss going for breakfasts and seeing him in the stands at their hockey tournaments. My husband speaks of him with nothing but love and admiration. A mentor to him like no other, with shoes so big they’ll never be filled. Mike and Don had a foundation of true friendship first and foremost. Working away from home wasn’t so bad when they were together. After a hard days work, evenings spent chatting were filled with life lessons, stories, and hopes of the future. Time together was cherished equally, no matter the location. Words cannot express the profound loss losing Don is to all of us. He will be remembered as kind, caring and generous, and the hardest working man with a wealth of knowledge and the patience of a saint. We are all better for having had him in our lives. Retire in Peace, Donnie. - Posted by: Sheri Taylor Lewis (Friend) on: Aug 29, 2024

  • On behalf of the Tim Horton’s Gang (Kenaston). We extend our condolences to the family. We all looked forward to Don’s participation in the morning conversation. Don was our “To Go To guy" when we needed expertise on carpentry projects. The coffee gang will certainly not be the same without him. R.I.P. our friend… 🙏🙏🙏 - Posted by: LeRoy Fox (Tim Horton’s morning coffee gang) on: Aug 28, 2024

  • Tammy and Family...so sorry to read of your Dads passing. It is never easy to say goodbye to the ones you love..but hold on to the precious memories. Your Dad would often sit with Harv and I on Nicolino's patio and we would have a great visit. He is now in the arms of an angel and free from pain. Jennifer Carla and I are keeping you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. Take care and hugs - Posted by: Cheryl Jamieson (Friend) on: Aug 28, 2024

  • Dear grieving families and friends, our deepest sympathies on the lost of someone that brought so many different memories to your lives. It is always so hard to acknowledge his departure from this life but may the words of the Lord (I am going to prepare a place for you) help our grieving hearts accept his departure from this world. Safe in the arms of Jesus he has become. May we find peace for our hearts with this knowledge. Ray and Monique Mayner - Posted by: Monique and Ray mayner (Friends ) on: Aug 28, 2024
