Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNARD EMMANUEL REMILLARD
Peacefully, with his family by his side, it is with great sadness we announce the passing of Bernard Emmanuel Remillard at the age of 86 on July 27, 2024.
Bernard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marielle (nee Trudel), his children, Gabrielle (Trevor), Valorie (Travis) and Patrick (Robin) along with his grandchildren, Spencer, Jordyn (and their dad, Lionel), Raven, Dawson, Talon (Angel), Phoenix (Kayla), Aurora (Sam). Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Madeleine, Celine, Gilberte, Julien (Diana), Yolande (Raymond), Maurice (Ursula), Jacques (Claudette), Richard (Val), Alain (Carmelle) as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Josephat and Jeanne D’Arc (nee Gosselin); his brother Ben and his sister Lucy.
Bernard was born and raised on a farm in St. Malo, MB. He was the second of 12 children and was proud of his large French-Canadian family, his extended family and his heritage. Back in the day, he worked in a pasta factory, was a heavy machine operator in Grand Rapids, MB (he always brought his guitar with him when he worked up north), worked at a meat packing plant for many years then found his calling as a groundskeeper until his retirement.
Bernard created wood sculptures and wood carvings of nature scenes and animals, mostly ducks and horses and of old churches, with one of his pieces displayed in a museum in St. Boniface; as well, he designed and carved custom gunstocks which he took great pride in.
Bernard was inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013 as coach/manager in the 1972/1973 season with the St. Malo Warriors. The Warriors went through the regular season undefeated winning 18 straight games. They then capped off a perfect year by winning eight more in the playoffs and the team's first Hanover - Tache title. He shared this accomplishment with his brother Julien as coach, his brother Jacques and bother-in-law Réal as players on the team.
Bernard or Barney as he was known, was an artist, musician, wood sculptor, prankster, boxer, loving husband, Dad, Péperè, arborist, coach, babysitter, comedian, curmudgeon, lawn enthusiast, hunter, arm wrestler, and storyteller. He was an excellent dancer, he loved old time music, the fiddle, banjo, guitar, hamburgers, gatherings, being at the lake with family, his roots, Marielle’s cooking, history, horses, horseracing, cutting grass, going to craft sales, garage sales, watching baseball and hockey (relishing when any team defeated the Maple Leafs) and he really enjoyed meeting up daily for coffee with his buddies to shoot the breeze, which he did consistently for almost 20 years. Il va nous manquer beaucoup.
A service in remembrance of his life will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 774 Archibald St. with reception to follow. Private interment at a later date.
