ELMER STUPNIKOFF

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our father, Elmer Stupnikoff, on Monday, September 2, 2024, at Percy E. Moore Hospital, peacefully with his family by his side.

Dad will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by his children Trina (Mike), and Rona, grandchildren Taylor, Alex, Wyatt and Chasen, sisters Viola and Valerie, and many nieces, great-nieces’ and nephews, and friends. Dad was predeceased by his parents, William and Katherine, brother Victor, son Timmy, and brothers-in-law Steve and Hans.

Dad was born to Katie and Bill and raised on the family homestead in Marcelin, SK. He was the middle child, between two sisters, Viola and Valerie, whom he cherished and adored. Early experiences with farm work and participation in sports, instilled the values of hard work and determination in him at a young age.

Following his graduation, accounting course, and tobacco farming, Dad secured a job with SAAN Stores in Saskatoon, initially in the stock room. He quickly worked himself up to becoming Manager of a number of retail stores across Western Canada, which was the impetus for his move to Winnipeg. Dad was ultimately promoted to Senior Buyer due to his hard work, dedication and drive. After 25 years with SAAN Stores, Dad accepted an offer to become General Manager of 40 Off Broadway stores throughout Canada. After 5 years in this position, he transitioned to Senior Buyer for Ricky’s. While managing all the responsibilities of his day job, which often included travelling across the world, dad also opened the construction company “Hi-Lite Homes” with a friend. Dad took pride in his attention to detail and quality craftmanship and as such, built a number of beautiful homes within the city.

Following his retirement, as Dad disliked the hustle and bustle of the city, he wanted to return to his small-town roots. He had a love for anything outdoors, including snowmobiling, quadding, hunting, golfing, gardening and especially going to his cabin in Hudson Bay, SK, and later to his bush property “Elmer’s Hideaway”. Dad found peace and tranquility when in the wilderness.

Dad ultimately settled in the town of Fisher Branch as he thought it would be a good location for a clothing store. As dad was never one to sit idle, he opened S & L Clothing in Fisher Branch, and quickly made new friendships and became a proud member of the community. His friendships here reignited his love for singing, dancing, drinking and making wine.

Despite Dad’s busy lifestyle, he always made time for family. Nothing made him happier than when his daughters, son-in-law and grandkids would all come for a visit. He was proud of each and every one of them and enjoyed sharing his knowledge, wisdom and love of the outdoors. Dad left behind his legacy in “Elmer’s Hideaway”. He created so many precious memories here with family and friends. This will forever be a place where we can reminisce about the many lessons he taught us, the work ethic and values he instilled in us, and the unconditional love he provided us. His life and laugh will always echo within our memories.

Dad will always be remembered for his strength, wisdom and pride in how he carried himself through his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In keeping with Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Fisher Branch Community Centre, 140 Tache St, Fisher Branch, MB.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre, 1028 Arnould Rd, Ile des Chênes, MB R0A 0T0.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I am so sorry I won’t be able to have my late night deep conversations with your dad anymore . I considered him a good friend. Once in awhile he would call out of the blue to rub in another Rider loss. I don’t think we will be able to make it for the memorial for him. Elmer will be missed greatly, he was a great man. God bless! Collin Wiebe - Posted by: Collin Wiebe (Nephew ) on: Sep 23, 2024

  • We got to know Elmer over the last 6 yrs especially in the winter would spend lots of time with him sledding. And meeting at the Sleeve Lake Cabin with him and Dustin enjoying smokies over the fire and of course a few drinks. Always lots of laughs and Elmer had so many interesting stories to tell. A great man will be so missed. Him and Dustin would come over to our place for a few drinks and they would stay for supper. Or we would go over to his place and order Chinese or pizza. Randy spent lots of time with him doing the snowmobile trails. We miss him so much already just not the same. Condolences to his family at this sad time which he loved dearly and talked about so much. Keep all those great memories close to your hearts. • When I moved to FB after retirement, one of the first person I became friends with was Elmer. We enjoyed each others friendship and had many a drink together. He used to take me around the surrounding area with his quad, side-by side, or his truck to show me all the interesting trails or hunting spots and all other places of interest. Happy hour, or as he would say, time for a cocktail was always something to look forward to. He loved to hear me play guitar and sing and eventually He joined in. He also loved too swoon the ladies with his dancing prowess. We are all going to miss him dearly. Rest in peace Elmer. Dollard - Posted by: Dollard Menard (friend) on: Sep 21, 2024
