DONNAN WILFORD BERT BUSSELL

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Donnan Wilford Bert Bussell at the age 64, who passed peacefully into the hands of the good Lord on September 30th, 2024, at the Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit in Winnipeg, Manitoba, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Donnan was born in London, Ontario, on June 22, 1960, to Jean and Elmer Bussell. He is survived by his nephews Kyle and Eric, his niece Leann, and his best friends Rene A. (Margeurite) of Calgary, Paul B. (Karen) of Winnipeg and Clayton C. of Winnipeg. He is predeceased by his parents Elmer and Jean and his brother Manford.

After leaving London and Winnipeg, Donnan moved to Churchill, Manitoba, in 1965. He attended school there until grade 11 and then moved to Winnipeg to attend Churchill High for grade 12. He moved back to Churchill and worked at the Port of Churchill. A great leader of people, he was promoted to foreman and worked there for the next 10 years. He decided to go to Red River College and become a Steam Class Power Engineer. He graduated with honours and moved to Inuvik. He then moved back to Winnipeg and retired, working at the National Research Councill building doing what he loved.

Donnan was an unbelievably great man, loving brother, son and friend to many around the world. He was always there to help when you needed advice or just a shoulder to lean on. His honesty and life values made him a special and fun person to be with anytime and anywhere. He was the ultimate volunteer in every community, giving back to those who were in need 52 weeks a year. He was always wanting to do the right thing and helped shape the loved ones around him. He made the world a better place in which to be and we will all miss him so much.

His ashes will be spread this February in Negril Beach where he spent his winter holidays with his brother and friends. This was his wish so his Jamaican spirit lives on with his brothers and sisters.

We want to acknowledge the exceptional doctors and nursing staff at the Riverview Health Center Palliative Care Unit in Winnipeg. They made his last days special so that he could rest in peace.
