Muriel Joyce Sinclair (known to most as Joyce) passed peacefully away at the age of 94 at Oakview Place Nursing Home in Winnipeg, MB on Friday, November 15, 2024.
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. At the age of six the family moved to the seaside town of Bangor, where she received her schooling. She trained as a nurse in Edinburgh, Scotland, in London, England and in Belfast. In 1956 she immigrated to London, Ontario, Canada and worked for a year in the premature baby nursery at the Victoria Hospital. She then moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where she worked at Deer Lodge Centre Veterans Hospital, first as a nurse and later as a Respiratory therapist and eventually became Director of Respiratory Services until retiring in 1993.
Joyce spent many years supporting people living with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) along with her friends Diana and Clara. Joyce helped with fundraising for the equipment program - a much-needed program. She became President of the ALS Society of Manitoba for a two-year period and sat on several committees.
She was predeceased by her parents, William and Nan Sinclair. She is survived by her nephew Timothy (Sherry), cousin Bruce (Eileen) and her special friend Diana Rasmussen who walked the journey with Joyce to the very end. She will be missed by many.
Thank you to Oakview Place Nursing Home for their care and concern.
At Joyce’s request there will be no funeral or service.
Cremation has taken place.
Joyce is now flying with the angels.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba, 2A - 1717 Dublin Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3H 0H2 or visit www.alsmb.ca

Long years ago, I worked for Joyce in the Respiratory Department at Deer Lodge. She was a good boss, ran a tight ship, and did like to have some fun both on and off the job. Joyce was a strong independent woman always with a mysterious side to her. Thinking of her friends she has left behind. - Posted by: Lori Denbow (Colleague) on: Nov 30, 2024
