JASON DESJARDINS

Jason Michael Desjardins was born in Winnipeg on September 23, 1975, the youngest child of Paul and Vona (Freeman) Desjardins. He grew up in Winnipeg and graduated from Fort Richmond Collegiate. Later, Jason enjoyed several moves with his parents, to such places as Aurora, Ontario; Virginia; Victoria and White Rock, BC. He was always excited to move somewhere new. In recent years as his parents’ health declined, Jason and his parents moved to Birtle, Manitoba to be close to Steve and his family. When he passed away on December 1, 2024, Jason lived in Sunnyside Manor Personal Care Home in Birtle, just a few doors down the hall from his father, Paul.

Jason was a good-natured man who enjoyed playing video games, watching movies and petting friendly dogs whenever he got the chance. He liked going for car drives with his parents, and always rode shotgun. When Jason first moved to Birtle with Paul and Vona, he and Paul would often go for drives to check out the local scenery and admire the many horses in the pastures. In his youth when he was less hampered by physical challenges, Jason enjoyed riding his adult tricycle, swimming and participating in Special Olympics. Jason had a good sense of humour and a great appetite. He didn’t say much, but he always knew what was going on.

Jason’s parents, Paul and Vona, dedicated themselves to providing Jason the best possible life. They enrolled him in day programs everywhere they lived, and arranged for respite workers to take him out for fun activities. The family would like to thank Shauna Sauk for taking Jason out to a wide variety of events in Birtle and neighbouring communities over the past few years, and all the other caregivers who enriched Jason’s life.

Jason was predeceased by his mother Vona in 2022, and is survived by his father Paul, his brother Steve (Alison; Mason, Miles and Emmett), his sister Michelle (Corey; Jack and Conrad), aunts and uncles, and many cousins.

A celebration of Jason’s life will be held in the summer of 2025 at the Killarney Cemetery, when his ashes will be interred next to Vona’s in Killarney, Manitoba. If friends so desire donations may be me to Special Olympics, Manitoba.
