Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD JOHN STEED
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard John Steed of Winnipeg on November 27, 2024, at the age of 48. Born in Sydney, Australia, Rich moved to Winnipeg in 2004 and passed away at St. Boniface Hospital with his wife by his side.
Rich will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 20 years, Meredith, daughter Juliette, and his stepson Ethan Townsend; his parents, Margaret and Norman Steed of Sydney; his sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Mark McRae, and their sons, James, Joshua, and Ashton, also of Sydney; his parents-in-law, Richard and Alice Foster; brother-in-law, Marc Foster; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kate and Garrett Hawgood, along with their daughters, Kennedy, Keiralyn, and Avery. Rich will also be fondly remembered by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and old friends in Australia, as well as the many friends he made in Winnipeg, who became like family.
Rich was predeceased by his brother Philip and nephew Connor.
Growing up, Rich found joy in simple pleasures like riding his bike and swimming in his Nan's pool every Sunday. He also cultivated a lifelong love of video games. In 2003, he and Meredith met online, and they were married in Australia in January 2004. Soon after, he immigrated to Canada, leaving behind the warmth of Sydney's summer for Winnipeg's frigid -40°C winter. Despite the stark contrast, Rich quickly adapted to his new home.
Rich became a valued Transit Driver with the City of Winnipeg, including earning the distinction of Driver of the Month. He genuinely enjoyed connecting with his passengers, always eager to hear their stories.
Rich was a passionate fan of Formula 1 racing and the Winnipeg Jets. He also shared a special bond with his three dogs, Lily, Abby, and Joey.
A special thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and health care aides at St. Boniface Hospital who cared for Rich over these last few months.
A celebration of Rich's life will be held in May 2025. To receive details, please contact richsteed.memorial@gmail.com. A notice will also be published in May with the details of the event.

Rich took me in when I had nowhere to go and loved me when I had no one who showed me love. He saved me, talked me into rehab, and gave me a second chance. He gave me a home and a father I never had, but will forever be grateful for. Wish we had had one last smoke together. Love you Rich - Posted by: Alex Adams (Son( of sorts)) on: Jan 19, 2025
