LOUISE GABA

October 25, 1926 - January 12, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Louise on January 12, 2025 in her 99th year.

The eldest daughter of Michael and Katherine Macuch, Louise was born on October 25, 1926 in Winnipeg where she lived her entire life.

After graduating, she was employed by the T. Eaton Co. as a clerk-typist in their mail order division. In 1954 she married Jaroslaw (Jerry) Gaba and became an exceptional stay-at-home Mom to their two sons Donald and Robert. She loved to host gatherings of family members and friends, always impressing everyone with her hospitality, style, and modesty.

Louise and Jerry tended a large flower and vegetable garden and also found time to travel. Along with cooking, baking, and putting up a vast yearly array of home preserves, her hobbies were sewing, knitting, solving crossword puzzles, and whist. Louise was also an inquisitive and very competitive scrabble player, and always maintained a friendly demeanour while she played.

She was a long-time member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church and St. Nicholas Seniors’ Club.

Louise was predeceased by her husband Jerry (in 2000), as well as her parents, older brother William, sister-in-law Betty, brother-in-law Ed, cousins Wayne and June, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Later, Louise became a resident of Carriage House and enjoyed the company of many dear friends. Most recently, she was a resident of ArlingtonHaus where she enjoyed the kind friendship of Pam and her team of dedicated associates and fellow neighbours. Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care staff ensured that Louise was comfortable and exceptionally well looked after during her final days.

Left to mourn are: son Donald (Erin), granddaughter Megan (Trevor); son Robert (Charlotte), granddaughter Samantha (Theodore), great-grandchildren Alexander and Indiana; sister Joyce; sister Annette (Anton), and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street, Winnipeg on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00 o’clock with Father Zachary Shwaluk, OSBM officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, 4355 Main Street North (Highway 9).

In lieu of flowers, if desired, a donation may be made to a charity of choice.
