It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dawn Nerbas.
She is survived by her daughter Nadine (Todd) Black, son Russell (Suzanne) Nerbas, grandchildren, Bradley (Carolyn) Black, Brittany (Garrett) Bannatyne, Ryan (Lisa) Nerbas, Jordan Nerbas (Kelly), Brendan Nerbas (Kelsey), great-grandchildren, Mya, Bentley, Banks, Stevie and sister-in-law Donna and family. She will also be remembered by her beloved cousin Beryl (Ian) Hatcher and their family in Brisbane, Australia. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, David, and adored sister Sandra (Shash).
Dawn was born in Manchester, England, and moved to Canada with her family in 1957. She began her career with Trans Canada Airlines in 1958, proudly serving as a stewardess flying in Viscounts, one of which is now on display in the Royal Aviation Museum. She then worked as a receptionist for Royal Upholsters and Finklemans Optometry before she married Dave and stayed home to raise the family. She then helped Dad run the family business, D.N. Auto Sales, for many years. Mom was involved with the Manitoba Transplant Program and was a past-president of the Canadian Maple Wings Association. She loved their home and yard in "her" Charleswood, enjoying the pool parties and the "Do’s" with family and neighbours. She also loved her second home, the cottage at Winnipeg Beach, where many happy memories were made. Dawn (aka GMD) was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading and was an animal lover, unapologetically spoiling the family pets. Mom enjoyed road trips, particularly the family ski trips to Sugar Hills and the many visits to Mahnomen. She travelled to Australia, England, Las Vegas and Hawaii. She was a big sports fan and could be particularly vocal when her Blue Bombers were playing. Mom loved music, dancing and singing along and attending concerts. She was generous, fun-loving, made people laugh, would light up a room and loved to chat. Family and friends were Mom’s priority. Dawn always had your back, spoke from the heart and had the special ability to make you feel so loved, leaving a lasting impact on everyone.
Special thanks to Oscar and staff at The Westhaven and to the wonderful staff at Tuxedo Villa for the care and compassion they all provided to our mom.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

My sincerest condolences to Nadine, Todd, Russell, Sue, and grandkids. I have many wonderful memories of Mrs. Nerbas throughout the years. From the treats she would make for us, to the heck she would give us for breaking windows playing catch in the backyards. She had made my mom's day on so many occasions with the, "sips" of Bailey's Irish creme in their coffee while they were planting flowers/ doing yard work and chatting about their lives. She would come out to see my kids perform in the Folklorama Filipino pavalion for many years, to not only support them, but to also praise them on what a wonderful show it always was each year. Mrs. Nerbas was like a second mother to me, and I am honoured to have grown up as her and Mr. Nerbas's next door neighbour. You will always be in my thoughts for who you were and the joy you brought to my mom, myself, and my kids. We will all truly miss her.
