DEREK BLACK
It is with the heaviest of hearts the family of Derek Black announce after a brief fight with cancer on March 4, 2025, Derek joined the unionized angels in the sky. He is most likely also organizing a folk festival with Stan Rogers, John Prine and Gordon Lightfoot as the headliners.
Derek was predeceased in 2019 by his always and forever princess, Bev Black, parents Tom and Roberta Black, in-laws Paul and Tolly Riggs, brother and sister-in-law Errol and Margaret Black as well as his sister-in-law Judy Willey.
He leaves behind to mourn his children Kelly and Kevin, along with his granddaughter Caylee, with whom he had a special kipper eating relationship. Last, but not least, his furry friend Bizhiw the cat, who comforted Derek after the passing of Bev.
The family would like to thank CancerCare and Riverview 3-East for their kind care.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on May 7, 2025 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the West End Cultural Centre, 586 Ellice Avenue, Winnipeg.

Our deepest sympathy at the passing of your dad and granddad. Derek and Bev were such good neighbours to us for many years. Getting invited for Christmas Eve over the years is a fond memory and we will miss seeing Derek in the neighbourhood and stopping by for a chat. Derek always had a story, but mostly he loved to talk about his dear Bev. Rest In Peace Derek. - Posted by: Erich and Joanne Struck (Neighbours) on: Mar 10, 2025
