Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I counted Alma a dear friend and mentor. She was always ready -and yet so gentle- to offer helpful advice. I would have longed to attend the service; had one in my own family at the same time. Alma will truly be missed for a long time. - Posted by: Betty Barkman (Longtime friend and fellow-writer) on: Mar 16, 2025

  • I met Alma at a Manitoba Christian writer's group. As a published author she graciously offered her expertise and experience in the craft to me. Patiently and gently she made suggestions as to how better I might write. Due to her mentorship I let go a strong habit of writing long sentences. Thank you, precious sister. We will meet again "in the morning just inside the Eastern Gate." - Posted by: Barbara Livingstone (Friend - Sister in Christ) on: Mar 13, 2025

  • I have lost a special friend and mentor in the passing of Alma Barkman. In the Winnipeg writer's group in which I first met her I found Alma to be most gracious and helpful in over coming my habit of using long, complex sentences in my writing. Dear sister, As the Christian hymn goes: I'll see you in the morning just inside the Eastern Gate and I'll be there. - Posted by: Barbara Livingstone (friend and sister in Christ) on: Mar 11, 2025

  • Grew up with Alma and her family in Roseisle in the day. She was a very kind person. Her parents were very kind. They treated my parents with respect and kindness. So sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. God bless. - Posted by: Barbara Baxter (A neighbour that used to live in Roseisle) on: Mar 08, 2025

  • I meet with Alma who helped me put together the Clearwater Family History Book. We enjoyed many long talks and sharing pictures. She also provided Clearwater history for the St Claude History Book. She was a wonderful person. - Posted by: Maurice Ccox (Distant relative) on: Mar 08, 2025

  • I met Alma at a local writer’s group in Winnipeg. I was drawn to Alma’s engaging and encouraging style. One of her many strengths/talents was helping new writer’s find their footing in the writing world. She was a wonderful writer and artist and will be missed by many. - Posted by: Robert Stermscheg (Friend, fellow writer) on: Mar 08, 2025
