Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BILL) EDWARD MICHAEL HEAD
It is with deep sadness we announce that on the morning of April 13, 2025, our beloved Dad passed away at home surrounded by family.
Dad was our guiding light, our mentor, our strength. His love carried us all through the best of times and the hardest of times. He was an extraordinary husband, father and family man.
Dad leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Nancy (Kevin), Cynthia (Michael); son Bill (Debra); his grandchildren, Emily and Jennifer; his step-grandchild Sophie; his sister Beverly; his brother-in-law Marvin (Shirley); sister-in-law Mary; his nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many close friends.
Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Evelyn; his parents, Pat and Alice; his sister Marilyn; his brother Don and his grandson Michael.
Dad grew up in Winnipeg. He met the love of his life Evelyn at a Canoe Club canteen dance, and they married later in 1957. They remained in Winnipeg and raised three children, Nancy, Bill and Cynthia.
As a youth, Dad spent his summers at Cameron Camps in Whiteshell Provincial Park, where his parents rented a cabin. Dad loved the outdoors. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hiking, skiing, tennis and running marathons. He was a passionate gardener winning several awards for his gardens at our home on Meadowlark Place. Dad loved to pick wild blueberries out in the bush where he would come back several hours later with pails full. Every summer, Mom and Dad would take our family to Alberta and British Columbia were we hiked and camped in the mountains. We played bingo at night, sat by the campfire, watched the stars and listened to Dad’s stories.
Dad loved our cottage at Victoria Beach and was an active member of the tennis club. He was very happy to celebrate his 90th birthday at the cottage last year.
Dad lived his life with enthusiasm. He was a Mason, a Shriner and a Rotarian. He strongly believed in community service. He belonged to several clubs including stamp club and the St. Charles Country Club where he enjoyed his weekly golf group. Mom and Dad belonged to dance club, bridge club and the Manitoba Club where dad competed in snooker.
Dad operated and owned two successful companies. The importing/ exporting company De Hede Fashions International imported ladies and men’s wear from Europe. This took him to Italy six to seven times a year. Dad loved Italy and made many wonderful friends there.
Dad’s life was a big adventure, but it was his family that meant the most to him. Dad was devoted to his family and loved us beyond words. It was important to him that we remained a close family, travelling together, celebrating holidays and each other together. He taught us that anything was possible, to never give up, to always find a way to reach your goals. Dad was kind, gentle, generous and hardworking. As dad liked to say “I did it my way”.
We would like to thank Rev. Ian Mills, who was a good friend to dad, and Lisa who visited Dad often. We would also like to express our gratitude to Uriah and Shaftesbury Retirement Residence. And to Ben who provided such loving comfort to dad and who will always remain part of our family.
A celebration of Bill’s life will take place later this summer.
