JOYCE CHRISTINE MAKOWESKI

April 30, 1937 - May 23, 2025

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of mom, grandma, and great-grandma Joyce. With Carol and Tony by her side, she took her last breath at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach. She was 88 years old. Mom was a woman of grace, strength, kindness and humor. She was a caring mother to Peter (Marcia), Carol (Rick), Tony (Chris); granddaughters, Sierra (Brendan), Tessa (Brett) and great-granddaughter Londyn Jessica.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Paul in 2011, her granddaughter Jessica in 2007 and daughter-in-law Chris in 2022. Mom was a very hard working woman. Was very active in the family farm, she also worked as a nurses aide in Vita, MB for 20 years where she continuously showed empathy towards others. She was a compassionate gardner, always grew enough for family, friends, neighbors and then some. She loved her flowers and was always seen weeding or watering her plants. There is a peacefulness that can come over us when we care for and nurture flowers and plants in a garden. Her love for angels was also evident in and around her home. Her recent love was cardinals. In 2022 and not without a battle, she went into the carehome in Vita. She grew to like it and made many new friends and met many old ones. She never complained about anything! She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering support. Her memory will be forever etched in our hearts and in every red cardinal we see.

A memorial service will be held May 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Freidensthal, MB. Viewing 30 minutes prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Zion Freidensthal Church or charity of your choice. Interment at the Overstone cemetery with luncheon to follow at Tolstoi Senior Centre.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. We will be forever grateful for all her love and countless memories she brought into our lives.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I have fond memories of Joyce at the Makoweski farm while visiting with Jessie when I was a child. I remember the biggest garden I had ever seen, the horse, Cinnamon, hunting for wild kittens, and always being greeted by Joyce with the utmost kindness and the most amazing treats. I often thought of her as my grandma too. The Angel of Love doll she gifted to me after Jessie’s passing holds a place of honour in my daughter’s room and I think of both her and Jessica often. Condolences to the family. She will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Cassandra Tkachuk (Neighbour) on: May 30, 2025
