Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I was recently prompted to do an online search for anything about the life of one of my all-time favorite people, Mr. Jim Bulloch. Discovering his obituary here was definitely bittersweet. Mr. Bulloch was my high school English teacher during the mid-1970's at Kelvin High in Winnipeg. His English classes were some of the most interesting and memorable classes of my entire public school career! He had a special knack for inspiring his students to really grapple with the topic at hand. We students had many a vigorous debate during class time, expertly overseen by Mr. B. If we strayed too far off-topic, he would gently steer us back on course, but not before allowing us considerable freedom to explore related ideas. I believe he genuinely enjoyed those discussions, listening patiently to our rather poorly-considered pronouncements with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. Mr. Bulloch was also my high school basketball coach. Our team practices and games were a bright highlight of my high school years. In fact, his practices were just as memorable as those outstanding English classes. It was always a special treat when Coach would lace up his Converse All-Stars and join us on the court for an exciting (but exhausting) scrimmage. I was frequently amazed at his level of skill. Even though I was half his age and had a substantial height advantage, I found it extremely difficult to defend against him. He consistently found a way to beat me to the hoop and score! Whether on the court or in the classroom, Mr. B was an inspiration to me. His kindness, his gentle spirit, and his wisdom left a profound impression on me. I have treasured the memories of my time as both his student and as an athlete under his mentorship throughout the decades of my life since then. I thank God for the important role Jim Bulloch so wholeheartedly embraced in my my young life. May God have mercy on his soul. - Posted by: Bernd Schmuecker (Former Student) on: Jun 06, 2026

  • I graduated from Kelvin in 1976 and still often think of my English teacher, Mr. Bulloch. He was so passionate about delivering the curriculum and he really made learning a wonderful experience. He was one of the best teachers I had in all my years of education. Condolences to his family. - Posted by: Marly Ramsey (Student) on: Jun 14, 2025
