AILEEN (PATRICIA) CHARLOTTE LARUE
Born the fourth child of Eleanor Marjorie Warner Williams (nee Froom) and James Alfred Ernest Williams on February 20, 1932, in their house on St. Elmo Road in St. Vital.
She met Dad, Charles Edward (Ted) LaRue, in 1952 at a house party. After spending time together, he proposed after just three weeks. They were married (eloped) June 27, 1952, and celebrated 61 anniversaries together. Four children were born to them between 1954 and 1969. They fostered 47 children, many of whom were special-needs infants requiring her therapeutic care and attention until they were ready for adoption; one of those infants, Joey, came to us at age three months and was subsequently adopted into our family. His link became permanent when he legally took our family name at 18.
Mom developed a passion for raising and showing St. Bernard dogs, which she did for more than 40 years. She often characterized them as "love for sale", and developed many friendships with those who "adopted" her puppies. She and Dad were founding members of the Saint Fanciers Club of Manitoba, and she remained a member of the Canadian Kennel Club for more than 50 years. In the 1980s, they added Shelties to their collection of dogs, and raised many. They produced both Saint and Sheltie champions over the years.
Mom's love knew no bounds. Between her biological children, foster children, pets, family members (parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and vast array of friends) it only grew. Hugs were her superpower. All who received them were instantly family.
Predeceased by both parents, Eleanor and Alf, husband Ted, elder sisters and brother, Kae, Dell and Don, younger brothers, Brian and Barclay, nephews, Tommy Hartle and Kurt Bittner, nieces, Linda Williams and Marjorie Gilbert, grandson Christian, brothers-in-law, Roy Hartle, Jim King, Dale England, Garry Stephanson, Kerry Bittner and John LaRue, and also Jack Mavins, spouse of her sister-in-law Yvonne.
Left to mourn are sisters, Nancy England (Dale), Judy Stephanson (Garry), Sandy Bittner (Kerry), sisters-in-law, Yvonne Mavins (Jack) and Jeannine Williams (Brian), children, Keith LaRue (Susanna), Laurie Lyss (Vernon), Tim LaRue (Darcene), Joseph LaRue (Louise) and Todd LaRue, grandchildren, Erin Doty (Jake), Jesi Agatep (Jeff), Becky Lyss and Aaron Chanas-LaRue, and great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Molly and Violet Doty, and countless other family and friends.
She passed peacefully on the morning of July 15, 2025, in her sleep at the age of 93. We thank her caregivers at Ste. Anne Hospital for their devotion to her care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Heart & Stroke Foundation and/or Alzheimer Society.
Announcement of Celebration of Life service to follow.

I meet Laurie at school when we were 11, she brought me home to meet the family from that day on Momma Pat treated me like another daughter, the many sleep overs, trips to the beach, church ext. She always made sure I felt like one of the family. Held me when my own Mom died even when I went a little wayward, visited me excitedly when I had my own daughter, came and visited when I moved out of province. Momma Pat is the epitomy of Unconditional Love. Rest easy with the Angels. - Posted by: Jo-Ann Gauthier (Extra family) on: Aug 09, 2025

To know Pat was to love her. Her eyes would light up when seeing someone she cared about and they lit up often. Her hugs were legendary as was her advice on dogs. My happy memories of my time at St. Philip's Church are entwined with both Pat and Ted. My deepest condolences to the family. Pat's love will live on in all those she touched. - Posted by: Christy Bettess Schmidt (Friend) on: Jul 28, 2025

Keith & Laurie, my heart is broken to hear you lost your Mom. She was such a lovely lady, both inside & out! A mother is the glue that holds a family together & I know now that she’s gone, you will feel lost. But she’s still looking after you, just in a different way! My heartfelt condolences. - Posted by: Christine (Hallem) Ward (Friend) on: Jul 19, 2025

With heartfelt sorrow, I offer my condolences to the LaRue family—her beloved children, in-laws, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cherished friends and all whose lives were graced by her love. My deepest sympathies especially go to her son, Todd, whose steadfast care and devotion over the years were a testament to love’s quiet strength. May you find solace in knowing that she lived a full and selfless life, and may the warmth of your memories—each a gentle echo of her amazing spirit—bring you peace and stay with you always. - Posted by: Angelina P (Friend) on: Jul 19, 2025
