DR. M. KAYE STEPHENSON KERR

October 18, 1941 - July 9, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. M. Kaye Kerr. Kaye passed away at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Canada, after a brief illness.

Born in Niagara Falls, NY, Kaye grew up in Youngstown, NY, and graduated from Lewiston-Porter High School in 1959.

Kaye earned her B.A. in Zoology from the University of Connecticut before pursuing graduate studies at the University of Minnesota, where she completed both her M.A. and Ph.D. in Child Development.

In 1969, she moved to Canada and joined the University of Winnipeg's psychology department. Professor Kerr retired from the University of Winnipeg in 2001.

Kaye had a joyful spirit, a wonderful sense of humour, and an unforgettable belly laugh that was always accompanied by her radiant smile.

Kaye was predeceased by her beloved husband Ian. She is survived by two nieces, Tina Oddy and Kim Leabo; and two nephews, James Stephenson and Stephen Stephenson.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Kaye and I met in September 1963 as beginning students at the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota. Our husbands were both history graduate students. We became couples friends as well as personal friends. We spent a summer in Winnipeg teaching at the two universities that Kaye and Ian taught at. Later they hosted us and our two daughters in London at their lovely apartment. From then on we stayed in touch by phone. I was deeply saddened to learn of her death after trying to reach her for some time. Kaye was a very dear friend and I will miss her always.
