RICHARD GENTLE

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our brother, Richard, who left us unexpectedly at his home. Richard was born in Winnipeg. Growing up in the 1960s and 1970s gave us some of the greatest memories the Gentle family shared together.

Richard had a successful career in teaching. He taught younger grades in Winnipeg School Division 1, worked in Manitoba's northern communities, and also spent time teaching adults in the prison system. He concluded his 30-year teaching career as an ESL teacher for middle years students. Teaching was deeply important to Richard, and this showed in his warm, giving nature. He was well respected and loved by his students.

Richard enjoyed gardening, going for walks, meeting up with his brothers for coffee, and visiting the YMCA for workouts. In retirement, his love for beaches led him to warmer climates, including Florida and Mexico. We are honoured to have created these memories with him and will cherish them forever.

Richard leaves to mourn his daughter Jennifer, sister Wendy, and brothers, Alfie, Danny, Kenny, Johnny, Mark, and Philip, along with many others whose lives he touched. He now joins his father Alfred, mother Evelyn, and sister Marlene in eternal peace.

A private celebration of Richard's life will be held on Friday, September 26, at 5:00 p.m. at his home, 172 Irving Place.

Richard, our hearts are with you.

We love you, and you will never be forgotten.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • There are so many moments and activities that bring you to mind—playing tennis and building sandcastles at Grand Beach, horseback riding, park picnics, and sharing milkshakes. You were there for so many of life’s big events, even giving the toast to the bride at my wedding. Working alongside you at Summer Enrichment deeply influenced my path toward becoming a teacher. You have left a lasting mark on my life, and I will miss you dearly. Rest in peace Richard. - Posted by: Lauren Anne Wall Barbour (Friend) on: Aug 25, 2025
