AURORA MARIA SCERBO

(CANTAFIO)

We are deeply saddened by the death of our devoted Mama, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aurora Maria Scerbo. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on March 22, 2025, in San Tan Valley, Arizona. She was elated to have just celebrated her 86th birthday with family and grandchildren by her side.

Aurora was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard, parents, Roberto and Concetta Cantafio, in-laws, Fred and Adeline Scerbo, sister, Sera, brother-in-law, Frank Loschiavo.

She leaves to mourn her three children, Richard Jr. (Connie), Adeline (Don), Concetta (Scott), her brother Joseph (Danielle), sister Pasqualina (Vance). Nani leaves to mourn her cherished grandchildren, Aurora, Richard III, Thomas (Kelsey), Larissa (Ryan), Vanessa, David (Patricia), Thomas S., and great-grandson Bower. Also mourning her loss are numerous nephews and nieces, many lifelong friends from New York, Arizona, and Canada.

Aurora was born in Amato, Italy and immigrated to Canada. She married the love of her life, in 1956 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They moved and settled in Oneida, New York, where Aurora naturalized to become an American citizen. She worked side by side with her husband at his Shoe Repair and Family Footwear Store. After a year they started their family. Soon after Mom opened Aurora's Sweet Shop Bakery. Our mother was a pillar of her community and church. She volunteered and was chairperson of the PTA, school activities, numerous church and charity organizations, Catholic Daughters and Community Clubs. She wore many hats from homemaker, gardener of vegetables and flowers to entrepreneur, but her favourite role was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

In 1980, the family moved to Winnipeg, when the three sisters established Alfonso Foods. Once in Winnipeg, Mom opened another business Aurora's Gift Shop. Mom and Dad's entrepreneurship continued until they retired. They then became Snowbirds travelling to Texas, until their final decision to reside in Arizona.

Up to the end, Mom maintained her strong faith, kindness, grace, compassion and appreciation of Love of family and friends.

She always communicated and had a close relationship with her grandchildren - "her treasures". She instilled God, faith, love and prayer to all. She was blessed to welcome her only great-grandchild, Bower, into her home and spend time with him on two occasions during the last year of her life. Forever Loved and missed Mama. "We love you more".

In lieu of flowers, the family request that masses can be said for Aurora. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue. Condolences at 9:00 a.m., Mass at 10:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon. Funeral will be live streamed. https://youtube.com/live/7J_IISFW_Z4?feature=share

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Aurora will always hold a special place in my heart, as I was only afforded the opportunity of seeing her briefly prior to her passing. But her daughter Concetta and her husband Scott brought me in like family during those final days, and our time together and the moments and words we shared together, and imprinted on my heart always. Aurora’s son Richard was also a joy to meet, and we were able to have several blessed discussions as well. I will forever love this beautiful family, and Gods timing and blessing in bringing us all together at such a difficult yet beautiful time, is only one where his Will and his Grace was mightily as well. I can’t wait to meet you in Heaven Aurora, as Christs Kingdom is without end, and stands eternal for those who are children of the light in his Spirit. -Pastor Bill - Posted by: Pastor Bill (Hospice Pastor/Family Friend) on: Sep 01, 2025
