  • Condolences to Merrill and family, we are very sorry for your loss. Thank you for the opportunity to visit Bill in the hospital. I knew, worked with and for Chief Clark for over 30 years. He was a true visionary that immersed himself in creating positive change and always promoted continuous learning. In the Department, Bill was instrumental in building the organization and even through so many obstacles he never gave up or stopped pushing for improvement. It was a sad day when he left. Chief Clark was extremely intelligent and an expert in so many areas and fields. We would talk for hours about the service, his love of music and his deep devotion to his pets. Chief Clark cared about being accountable to the citizens of Winnipeg and always believed in challenging the status quo. He would say " Ask the question that must be answered". Even during his illness he kept up his thirst for knowledge and the ability to share it. He was a great coach, mentor, and teacher. Many people owe him a profound thank you and gratitude for what he accomplished. Merrill, Bill loved you so much. - Posted by: Joe and Corrie Lepieszo (Friend /co worker) on: Sep 21, 2025

  • I remember working with Bill in my first year on the job. He was stationed at #1 & was the branchman on the centre engine. It was probably the most prestigious position for firefighters at the time. I observed Bill in action a few times & was in awe of his dedication, determination & capacity as a firefighter to fight a fire & save lives. One late night/early morning apartment block fire, he literally saved 2 or 3 people from certain death, pulling them from the burning apartment, for other crew members to remove from the building. They were hospitalized with burns & smoke inhalation. Bill had a reputation for being intense & he left his mark on me, a raw rookie. I offer my condolences to his family. - Posted by: Tim Picken (Colleague) on: Sep 21, 2025

  • I worked with Bill on 4 shift for a number of years he taught me High Angel Rescue when he was in the Training division. It was a pleasure working with him he proved himself in all phases of the Fire Service. He was adventurous daring and very intelligent. He was a credit to the Department. My condolences to his wife Merrill and his family. My favorite versus in the Bible is " to be absent from the body is to be with the lord" Bill is in good hands now. See you again Bill. - Posted by: ken barnett (Brother Firefighter) on: Sep 20, 2025

  • Merrill it is with deep sympathies I am shocked at Bill's passing. My condolences to you and family . Bill and I go back fifty years as friends and advisers we all have our opinions on matters and thru our job great positive and negative discussions took place but at the end of the day friendship over came the discussion. • Bill was a neighbor, we both lived on Sydney Ave, a brother firefighter, a mentor and a friend. We had many good conversations both before and after he got sick. He fought cancer with the same intelligence and determination he did most other things. I will miss our chats. My sincere condolences to Merrill and his family. - Posted by: Scott Miner (Friend) on: Sep 20, 2025
