SHARON MOISIUK
On Saturday, October 25, 2025, Sharon Elizabeth Moisiuk, beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, died peacefully after a nearly two-year fight against cancer. She was 73.
Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, the middle child of Elizabeth and Trian Moisiuk, Sharon was instilled with a sense of adventure, a love of learning and a commitment to family and community. She was a tenacious and fun-loving sister to Eunice and brother David.
As a student, Sharon excelled at Wetmore Public School, Central Collegiate (class of 1969), and the University of Saskatchewan, where she completed one year before entering the College of Medicine. In 1975, at the young age of 23, Sharon graduated medical school.
Sharon went on to complete her medical training at Winnipeg's Children's Hospital and Toronto's Sick Kids. Applying her keen sense of adventure to her training, Sharon arranged a three-month elective at the hospital in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas - her first plane trip! Later training saw Sharon flying in small aircraft and snowmobiling across Northern Manitoba and Ontario to provide medical care to remote communities. She received her Paediatric Specialist Certification in 1979.
Finished her training, Sharon worked as a general paediatric and emergency-room physician at the Selkirk Medical Centre from 1980 until 1982, when she joined the Department of Paediatrics at St. Boniface Hospital as a full-time neonatologist, a position she held until her retirement in 2014.
Sharon's sincere and caring disposition meant she was often recognized and fondly greeted in her day-to-day life by families she had cared for in St. Boniface Hospital's outpatient clinics from 1982 to 1987, and through private practice, with partner Dr. Susan Collison, at the Meadowood Medical Centre from 1987 to 1997. Medical students may recall Sharon as a lecturer in the University of Manitoba Department of Paediatrics from 1982 to 2003, as an Assistant Professor of Paediatrics from 2003 to 2014, and as an neonatal resuscitation program (NRP) instructor from 2006 to 2015.
Sharon met Bruce, her loving husband of 48 years, at Central Collegiate in Regina. They were married in a candlelight ceremony on September 17, 1977, and raised three children - Whitney, Mallory and Robert - of whom Sharon was immensely proud. Sharon nurtured and shared her children's many interests and aptitudes, sewing costumes and criss-crossing town and country to attend lessons, recitals and competitions. She consistently sought new opportunities to inspire lifelong learning, fun and a sense of adventure.
As chief planner of family vacations, Sharon ensured her children were competent downhill and cross-country skiers, and that they tried other pursuits, including whitewater rafting and horseback riding. The most fun was had at the family cabin on West Hawk Lake, where Sharon and Bruce shared their love of the outdoors and taught all three kids to canoe, fish and forage for wild edibles.
In her retirement, Sharon turned with vigour to hobbies she had cultivated throughout her life: growing a beautiful garden sanctuary, culinary arts, hosting dinners, playing the piano, sewing and staying in shape by walking, biking and cross-country skiing. She also took up curling and enjoyed a second career working for city and provincial elections in 2019, 2022 and 2023.
Sharon is predeceased by her parents Elizabeth Sylvia Moisiuk and Trian John Moisiuk, and her infant son, Robert Colin Light in 1978.
She will be missed tremendously by her husband, Dr. Robert Bruce Light; children, Whitney (Moein Almasi), Mallory (Geoffrey Gunn) and Robert (Melissa Conn); her siblings, Eunice (Bill Misskey) and David (Susan Moisik); brothers-in-law James Light (Dixie Durling) and Jack Light; nephews, Bennet Misskey (Patty Miller), Dr. Jonathan Misskey (Anna Maslany), Scott Moisik (Carly Jaques) and Ryan Moisik (Dixiana Moisik); as well as by her great-nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at All Saints Church (521 Broadway), with a lunch reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Siloam Mission.

I met Dr. Moisiuk in the early 90's at the Meadowood Medical Ctr in St. Vital, where I was working as the pediatric Doctor's office Assistant. She was such a good sport, and a lot of fun to work for. At that time I was engrossed in the James Bond novels, and laughingly called her "Dr. M" after Bond's boss "M". She had a wonderful, cheerful disposition, and her little patients loved her. Dr. Moisiuk was the kind of person who made a lasting impression an all those who knew her, she will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Debby Gibson (Employee and friend) on: Nov 07, 2025

I first met Sharon as a second year resident in paediatrics. I had been in Family Practice for 6 years and realized better perinatal outcomes and general paediatrics was where I wanted to be. Sharon had her residency interrupted by the birth and death of their first born; Robert Colin Light from a hypoplastic left heart. I was older than the other residents and feeling awkward. Sharon quietly took me under her wing and helped me re adjust to academia again. We had been friends ever since. She later joked I was a guiding spirit as I found them their house, a position with Meadowood Medical and Margaret. Margaret was invaluable to the LIghts as they both medically worked at the tertiary care level with its brutal on call demand. Sharon and Susan Collison shared a paediatric practice for ten years as associates. The office we shared with Dr. Jan Roberts was fun and between patients we each answered each others queries. Sharon and Bruce visited us after retirement at our home on Galiano Island BC and is the last time I saw Sharon. The comfort and bond was still there. I had two brothers but never a sister. Sharon came closest to being that sister. I will miss you my friend. Brian - Posted by: Dr. Brian Russell (Friend, neighbour, professional associate) on: Nov 03, 2025

Sharon is a special soul. The mother of our daughter's best friend growing up at the local community school, she had a way of making everyone she met feel seen, heard and treasured. She and Bruce were there for us as friends and offering their medical expertise when our youngest daughter died, never realizing they had also lost a young son. She always amazed me with all she could do and participate in with her family and community despite the busy schedules they had as medical specialists! I will always look up to her for her adventurous soul and energy for all things good for her family. In later years, I would be delighted to run into her on one of her many walks in our neighbourhood. She could chat, often entertaining you with great stories or experienced insight. Sharon, you touched many. You will be missed greatly. Mostly, we treasure our memories of having your special soul in our lives over the years. Love from the Cram family. - Posted by: Donna Cram (Friend) on: Nov 01, 2025
