OLGA TKACHYK

December 28, 1927 - November 18, 2025

God welcomed our mother, Olga Tkachyk, to her eternal home on November 18,2025 surrounded by those she loved most; her children.

Being 97 years old at the time of her passing, she was predeceased by too many to be named, notably by her soulmate and husband Mike on October 30, 1997 and her parents, Onufry Sokoliuk (1989) and Maria (1973). She is also predeceased by her seven siblings between the years of 1996 and 2009, as well as many other friends and family. She leaves behind her daughter, Donna Tkachyk, and her son Randy (Joyska) TKachyk, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Olga was born in Sirko, MB on December 28, 1927 on a farm that remains in the family to this day. She attended Ackland and Sundown School in a one-room schoolhouse. She later worked for Marathon Pulp and Paper Co. in Ontario in the Port Arthur Cafe and food store.

She married the love of her life, Mike Tkachyk, on October 27, 1956. They farmed in the Sirko area, also on a farm that remains in the family today. They enjoyed many loving and successful years where they raised Donna, born in 1957, and Randy, born in 1969. Mom always loved farm life. She was a member of St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sirko and was an active member of the Women's Association. She loved the outdoors, nature, and especially her garden and flowers. You could often find her sitting by the garden, "watching the flowers grow," which she continued well into her 80s.

Mom never thought of anyone as a stranger - just a friend she hadn't met yet. She was the heart of her family and took pleasure in the achievements of others. Her heart and home were opened to everyone. People knew that Mom's coffee pot was always on. She had tremendous faith and courage and always believed whatever happened to her was meant to be.

Mom's strong work ethic was founded in her commitment to her family. Her love and support for her children grew with every year. She cared for her family in every way she knew how.

Mom never knew what it meant to be bored because there was always too much to do. Her family home didn't have electricity until 1953, so the daily chores of keeping warm by getting wood for the fire or milking the cows in the morning were familiar routines for her. Not to mention helping her own mom in the kitchen. When it came time to care for Mike and face her own cancer scare, she just found a way to work harder.

We will always remember the love and care Mom had for us. In her words, we heard wisdom, in her eyes we saw kindness and love. She taught us that even when the dark clouds were over us , to never be afraid and to face new challenges head on. She taught us love, compassion, courage, respect, dignity, and laughter.

Mom lived her life as she wanted it to be. She dealt with her medical issues and failing health with as much grace as she could, and only as her mind failed her, due to dementia, she gave voice to her frustrations. And to that end, we wish to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the staff at Vita Personal Care Home. Your love and acceptance, and care of our mom meant the world to us.

Olga will be greatly missed by many and especially her family. God bless you, Mom, for all the wonderful years we had with you. We will love you always, and you will live forever in our hearts.
