MARY SCHWARTZ

(nee REMPEL)

October 26, 1947 - November 22, 2025

Mary Schwartz (nee Rempel) was born on October 26, 1947 in Germany. Surrounded by her family on November 22, 2025, she passed into the arms of her Lord.

Mary was predeceased by her parents and two brothers. Mary was born after Second World War in Germany and through sponsorship by the MCC, her family moved to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. Growing up in North Kildonan with her 4 brothers, Mary attended MBCI and River East Collegiate, where she met her future husband, Rory. Mary made many lifelong friends while at school who she cherished dearly throughout her life. Mary and Rory met when they were teenagers in March 1966 during the big blizzard. The story goes that Rory didn’t want to attend a party due to the weather, however upon hearing that Mary would be attending, he went. He walked her home that night and their story began. They were married on September 18, 1971.

Though Mary lost her first baby, it brings us joy to know that Mom is able to see that child again. Shortly after that loss, Mary and Rory had their first-born Tyson (Cynthia), followed by Cecely (Ryan), Heidi (Ryan) and Kristen. Mom was our superstar and greatest champion; she was our everything. Mom handled the craziness of our lives with the same grace, patience, and beautiful spirit that she did everything with. Mom loved painting and was a gifted artist. She loved spending time at the family cottage, especially going fishing. Mom loved golfing. She also loved travelling with Dad and spent most of her later years travelling the globe together. One of Mom’s happiest moments was when she became an “Omi”. Mom was an Omi to 5 beautiful grandchildren – Evan, Rebecca, Sara, Abigail, and Taylor. Each of whom brought unending joy to her throughout her life. She loved having one on one time with each, doing nails, going shopping, crafting, painting, and going golfing.

A celebration of life will take place on Monday, December 1, 2025 at 12:00 p.m., at 725 Lagimodiere Blvd.

Mom’s faith in Jesus Christ guided her life and set an example to us all. Although we will miss her terribly, we are comforted by the knowledge that this is not goodbye for we will see her again. Save a spot for us next to you in the choir Mom!

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • My condolences. I grew up in the house across the street from Schwartzes. She and her whole family were always so friendly - Posted by: Jacqueline Van Arragon ( Koch-Schulte) (Former neighbor) on: Nov 29, 2025

  • Mary’s crafting spirit was infectious. Even though we got together only annually at Diane and Len’s for a wonderful day of a special Christmas Project and then yummy appetizers at Di’s house it was a day to look forward to for weeks. Our daughters joined us as they aged bringing their own lively inventive ideas with them. Mary was always in the thick of all things crafty. She will be missed. Her positive faith inspired life outlook was loved by all. Our deepest sympathies to you Rory, and family. May you sense Jesus holding you up today and throughout the coming season. - Posted by: Lori Fehr(Kliewer, Hildebrand) (Fellow crafter) on: Nov 29, 2025

  • Mary hosted the first Bible study I had ever attended, and which was a big part of growing into my faith as a new Christian. When I think of Mary I see grace and gentleness. My deepest sympathy to the family. - Posted by: Pat Psooy (Friend) on: Nov 29, 2025
