Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMYRTLE BENSON
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Myrtle Benson.
To know Myrtle was to love her. She lived her life with warmth, kindness, generosity, and love. Family and friends were at the centre of everything she did, and nothing mattered more to her than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Fiercely independent and never expecting anything in return, Myrtle took care of the people she loved. She was thoughtful and wise, knowing when to offer guidance, when to share a homemade meal, and when to open her door to someone who needed a place to stay. Deeply grateful for her life and for the people in it, she had a way of making others feel comfortable and at home.
As we say goodbye, we take comfort in a life beautifully lived, with not a day wasted. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and care staff who so lovingly cared for Myrtle.
A small family gathering will take place in Winnipegosis at a later date.

I am so very sorry to hear of Myrtle's passing. She was such a kind, loving person who always had a wave & a smile or a story to tell whenever I saw her. She's missed in the neighbourhood. - Posted by: Melissa Pope (Neighbour) on: Jan 05, 2026

Myrtle was my good friend and neighbour and I miss her terribly. We shared laughs and tears at her kitchen table, played cards and scrabble, and talked about Ariel’s latest escapades. She spoke so proudly of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was so excited to share the latest cards and photos she would receive. She was an incredible person who lived and loved so freely. And her eyesight was amazing! She could see me from across the street, through my not so clean windows, while I’m sitting at my kitchen table and wave at me! And Myrtle wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself when she felt she was wronged. She had spunk! There will never be another one like Myrtle. Goodbye my friend. Love you. - Posted by: Denise Vandal (Friend and neighbour) on: Dec 31, 2025

Our sincere condolences. Myrtle was our neighbor for more than a decade. We would usually visit by Myrtle's front steps, talking about the people and animals in our neighborhood. I enjoyed having a tour of Myrtle's home early on, and was so happy to have her visit our home for a tour. At times, I would bring Myrtle a treat, and we would have a warm hearted chat. I was so touched to have visited Myrtle on her 99th birthday. Myrtle was easy to care about, and a role model for capable aging. I recall Myrtle driving her trusty red car, tending to her garden, and keeping her home so tidy and welcoming, well into her nineties! She was always so kind to compliment my hair and I was always welcome to visit! She had even promised to make me some perogies, which I know would have been delicious! Myrtle is forever in my heart, and I miss her. Sid. - Posted by: Sid and Steele (Neighbors) on: Dec 23, 2025

My Nana had an amazing life. She was a strong independent women who lived life on her own terms, exactly how she wanted, which I always admired. She told me she left the farm she grew up on at a young age because she was a "city girl" and farm life was not for her. She attended University to become a Nurse and was also school teacher in Winnipegosis where she met her husband Gill. They moved to Winnipeg where they started a family and she became a Mother to John, Don and Kathy who she loved dearly. While raising her children she worked two jobs to support her family and when she retired she traveled the world with her sister Elaine and would tell us about all her amazing trips. She later became a Grandma and Great-Grandma (Nana to me) and she was the best Nana you could ask for. I was so lucky to grow up living only a few blocks away from her, we could walk or ride our bikes over to her house whenever we liked. Her door was always open (and never locked haha). She almost always had something homemade cooking and we would sit around her kitchen table talking and laughing as she cooked. She spoiled us with fresh perogies, cabbage rolls, donuts, cinnamon buns and so much more. Food was her love language and anyone who visited her house knows they were always offered a hot cup of tea and something to eat. I will always remember her voice saying "Eat, Eat, sit down and have a cup of tea my dear." I am so lucky I got to spend so much time with her growing up, playing cards and scrabble, going for bikes rides, sitting on her garden swing and strawberry picking in the summer. I have so many wonderful memories to cherish and will miss her forever. - Posted by: Nicki (Granddaughter) on: Dec 22, 2025

Myrtle was the kind of neighbor you gladly visited for the stories she could tell. Her zest for life was catching. I will remember her as the kind, spunky senior worth emulating. Irma. - Posted by: Irma Van Niekerk (Former neighbor) on: Dec 21, 2025
