DOUGLAS ARTHUR BUFFIE
Peacefully on December 21, 2025 Douglas passed away at Grace Hospital surrounded by his wife and children. Predeceased by his parents, Jacob Buffie and Sophia Buffie (nee Neuls) and his brother Tom, he is survived by his wife Joyce (nee Krupinski) of 68 years and his children, Nancy Shead (Philip), Douglas (Kathy), Laura Jean Schmidt (Brian - “Uncle”) and Jim (Susan).
Doug loved and was so proud of his grandchildren, Jack Buffie (Alison Buckberrough), Jennifer Shead (Matt Hurd), Keith Buffie, Carolyn Shead, Adam Schmidt (Patricia Bulos) and Sara Buffie.
He worked for 42 years as a sales representative in the corrugated container industry. He was a member of the Master Brewers’ Association and the Regina Kiwanis Club.
Doug was transferred to Regina to help open the new plant there. He worked there for 13 years. While in Regina, he refereed minor, high school and junior football. He held the yardsticks for the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders at their home games. He was transferred back to Winnipeg in 1972.
His favourite place to be was the cottage at Gull Lake. While he was working, the last three weeks of August were reserved for his summer holidays at the cottage. Even after he retired in 1997, he continued to take the last three weeks of August for his “holidays”. He enjoyed the annual fireworks competition with their lake neighbors the Zammits and dear friends the Leibels from Regina. Bonfires were more fun when he made his “special” popcorn. He was so happy at family dinners where three tables were pushed together to ensure that the entire family of all ages could sit together at one table, a tradition which still continues.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sturgeon Creek 1 Residence, especially Dave and Lisa, Doug’s respite caregiver Lee Ann, and the Emergency Room doctors, nurses and staff at Grace Hospital for their compassion and care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Kidney Foundation or a charity of choice.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
