Gladys Toews, age 69, of Steinbach, Manitoba, passed away suddenly in her home on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
Gladys is survived by her brothers, Jim, Carl, and Elmer; sisters, Linda, Edna, Martha, and Evelyn; as well as nieces Georgina and Cindy.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Lena Toews; sisters, Violet and Sarah; as well as one niece, Eva.
Glady, as she was affectionately known, was born on July 11, 1956, in Steinbach, Manitoba, and lived in her childhood home in Greenland until moving to Steinbach in 1987. Glady was a vibrant soul who had a deep love of music, color, and life. In childhood, she spent her days at home with her mom and siblings, being loved, protected, and cared for. Her father would often sit Gladys on his lap, singing and playing harmonica for her. Or her sisters would travel with her, wheeling up and down the country roads. Gladys loved shredding newspapers until big piles surrounded her, splashing in the bath, and playing with her childhood cats. As she grew older, her music taste reflected her vibrant personality, and Mamma Mia, Hairspray, and Elvis Presley provided the soundtrack to her life. She loved the outdoors, going for walks or watching children go by on their way to school. Her joy was clear through happy squeals, clapping, and those who were lucky to be a part of her life.
Glady will be remembered for her unique soul, her sense of adventure, and her love of life, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed her path. And although Gladys took her bright, colorful soul with her to her forever home, her memory will continue to brighten our lives for as long as her story is told. May her memory be a blessing to us all as her spirit continues to inspire us to act with compassion, integrity, and love in all we do.
The funeral was held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m at the Greenland Church of God in Christ - Mennonite, Greenland, MB.
