Eloise Mae Johnston (née Rogers) born in Carmen, Manitoba, to Homer and Iva Rogers, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at the age of 89.
Eloise lived a life marked by deep devotion to her family and dedicated service to her community. She moved with her family to Winnipeg, where she attended school in St. Vital, at which she excelled earning the Governor General's Medal for academic excellence. She went on to earn both a BA and a BEd with an interest in early childhood education, from the University of Manitoba. She began her career serving the needs of children with disabilities, work to which she brought compassion, patience, and commitment. Later, she transitioned to teaching elementary school, where she continued to positively impact the lives of countless children. All of this she accomplished while raising four children, Carl, Neil, Diana, and Heather with the support of her beloved husband, Gordon. On retirement she continued to support the education system from afar through volunteering with the Schoolmasters' Wives Association and the Retired Women Teachers' Association, serving terms as President of both. Eloise and Gordon had a long marriage which included much travel and adventure including two years in Ghana and several European family trips. Eloise will be remembered for her generosity of spirit, her dedication to education, and her unwavering love for her family including her five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She leaves behind a legacy of service, learning, and care that will continue through the lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Education, be made in her and Gordon's memory.
