Norman James Roberts, of Winnipeg, died at Grace Hospital on early Sunday morning, January 18, 2026.
Born April 25, 1935 in Winnipeg at the Misericordia Hospital to parents, James and Maude (nee Le Poidevin), Norm grew up in St. James, at 222 Marjorie Street.
Norm excelled at mathematics, and was elected treasurer at St. James Collegiate High School. As a young man, he went on to work in accounting at the Canadian Pacific Railway, and later at Canadian Pacific Steamships.
Norm married Eunice Crook on October 5, 1957 at the Deer Lodge United Church; and, after a honeymoon at Detroit lakes, the couple moved to Montreal, where Norm had been transferred with his job. Two years later he was transferred back to Winnipeg, where he and Eunice would eventually settle at 322 Nightingale Road.
Upon returning to Winnipeg, Norm joined the Reserve Army (the Little Black Devils) and found employment at General Stationery and Furniture Ltd. His quick wit, natural charm, and knack for always having a joke or two in his pocket helped him rise to star salesman, eventually leading to part ownership of the company and his role as president of the Canadian Office Products Association (COPA) in the 1980s.
A man with a robust social life, Norm enjoyed golf, fishing, cycling, playing piano, and woodworking. He travelled widely, both for work and, later, in his retirement, for pleasure. As a young man he worked with the Sertoma Club and taught swimming at the St. James Civic Centre.
Norm was predeceased by his wife Eunice. He leaves behind his sons, Brad (Michele) and Dan (Sheri); grandchildren, Sidney and James; and his beloved Fay Townsend.
Norm’s family would like to thank the staff at the Kiwanis Courts for their kind attentions.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue.

We were so sad to hear of Norm's passing. We knew Norm as a dear friend of our cousin Fay and her family. Norm was a lovely man; always had a smile, a remembrance, a gentle hand in Fay's and always interested in news from us as visitors. We enjoyed his company this past summer with Fay at a "cousin's reunion" luncheon. His kindness, caring, sensitivity and that twinkle in his eye will be remembered. Brad, Dan and family I was sad to hear about Norm's passing. I knew your dad my whole life as our parents were close friends. I always thought of him as a cool guy with a great sense of humor. Our neighbor for 35 years. We will always remember Norm pulling into his driveway after a days work, and crossing the street to deliver his latest joke, He was a true gentleman , and hands down the best neighbor one could ask for.
