Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySUSAN ALICE BURNS
Susan Alice Burns died peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.
She was born in Plum Coulee, MB.
She is predeceased by her husband, Garth Burns, her parents, Neil and Susan Dyck (nee Martens), her sister Marge Smith, brothers, John and Richard Dyck, and her granddaughter Terrin Dahl.
Mom spent the early parts of her life on the farm. She attended the local school but was preempted by the family’s needs at home and her education was cut short.
Mom and Dad met at a hockey game he was playing in and they eventually married on July 1, 1950. After a brief stint living in Springfield, MB they moved to the city.
This provided Mom with a job. She worked at Eatons but found long term employment at Loblaws, where she was a cashier for over 20 years.
Throughout her life Mom's main hobby was sewing. She not only sewed her own clothes, but those of Marty's and Susie's.
In their retirement Mom and Dad travelled many years to their time share in Hawaii. After Dad's passing in 2000, Mom travelled to Mesa, AZ for the warm weather and to be with her longtime best friend and sister Shirley who was also staying in the same community.
Shirley and Mom also shopped every week come rain or shine for over 35 years at different shopping locations.
As Mom got a little older the winters were spent visiting her kids in Coachella Valley, CA and Mesa, AZ.
Mom was a very caring and compassionate person. She was head of her "Stitch and Bitch" club and was in charge of delivering birthday and sympathy cards in Silverview Estates. She also visited and helped care for friends that were not as fortunate as her.
Later on, Mom became more private and enjoyed her family's Facetimes, her books, puzzles and TV.
Throughout her life Mom was a dedicated and loving mother, providing encouragement and direction as needed. She will be missed.
Mom is survived by her sister Shirley Clubine, and brother Larry Dyck; her children, Marty Dahl (Murray), Terry Burns, David Burns, Susie Wersch (Gerry); her grandchildren, Matt Dahl (Silver), Stephanie Dahl (John), Jenna Morrison (nee Burns) (Lance), Connor Burns, Mack Burns (Allie), Jayde Saunders (Joe); her great-grandchildren, Hewitt, Goldie and Autumn Morrison, Eilish, Jason and Lawson Dahl, and Fiona Saunders.
A celebration of Susan's life will be announced at a future date.
Thanks to the nurses and staff at Brightwater, Lindenpointe and nurses and doctors at Health Sciences Centre.

My deepest condolences to your family. Susan and my mom were second cousins. The younger Susan and I went to school together and that’s how I met her mom. I LOVED going to spend the night or the weekend at your house! Your mom sang and was always happy and upbeat. During a snowstorm she called my parents to say that I needed to stay another night, then sent David to get us snacks at Loblaws! lol. I didn’t have to do Saturday cleaning at my house and enjoyed the day playing games and eating snacks. She sang Supertramp to David one day when she was upset with him and trying to make a point. I saw Mrs. Burns as an amazing woman and mom! I wanted to be like her when I was a mom. I know that she will be deeply missed by her family, but will have left great memories and guidance. - Posted by: Brenda Suderman DuVal (Relative) on: Feb 07, 2026

Mom B was truly a very special woman who was loved deeply by many, especially her precious family. I had the privilege of knowing her for close to 50 years. She was a trailblazing working Mom and proficient homemaker who juggled working outside of the home while raising four amazing kids and being a devoted wife, sister, grandma, great grandma and friend! She was the real deal and gave so much of herself to all who loved and admired her! I will cherish all my days with her and have learned so many life lessons by being in her presence. Grandma Susan was a pillar for her family and I will hold all of the precious memories of this great woman close to my heart! ❤️ - Posted by: Sue Burns (Daughter in law) on: Feb 07, 2026
