MILDRED CECILE BUREK

With Patrick by her side, Mildred passed away peacefully at Kildonan Care Centre where she resided for nearly ten years.

She was predeceased, by parents, John and Anna Haier (1989, 1993); her husband Casmer (1998); her sister Violet (2000); brother Eddie (2006); and several Burek family brothers and sisters-in-law.

Mildred will be lovingly missed by son Patrick; devoted sister Bernice Bukoski; and sister-in-law Irene Burek. There are many nieces and nephews and friends who will remember her jovial character.

Mildred lived her life in rural Hazelridge until an accidental head injury in 2015. Her 42 year teaching career at Hazelridge and Oakbank schools were her joyful years, and over the years she taught hundreds of students. She was a proud parishioner at St. Michael's Cooks Creek Church and a member of the C.W.L. Her past times included catering at various events held at Hazelridge Hall, countless hours playing cribbage, maintaining an immaculate yard, and watching various sports on television. Mildred will always be remembered for her great sense of humour, personal warmth, and high energy.

Many thanks to the staff at Kildonan Care Centre for their compassionate care.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael's Church in Cooks Creek on Saturday, February 14th at 11:00 a.m. with Father Louis officiating. Interment at the Cooks Creek Cemetery will occur at a later date.

  • Mrs Burek was my teacher at Hazelridge school. I fondly remember her as a caterer at the Hazelridge hall at socials, weddings, and curling windups. I can still see her beautiful smile. Rest in Peace - Posted by: Lynne Chabluk (Student) on: Feb 07, 2026

  • Patrick, sorry for your loss. Mildred was my grade 6 teacher and neighbour! My fondest memory is of Mildred reading a chapter from either a Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys mystery book to the class everyday after lunch break. - Posted by: Colleen Walker (Former student) on: Feb 07, 2026
