PETER PAUL SLIWA

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our husband and father, Peter Paul Sliwa on January 29, 2026, at the age of 88.

Peter will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Violet; daughter Sharon (Wesley); two granddaughters, Lauren and Lindsay; and sister Stella of Yorkton, SK.

He was predeceased by his parents, Tekla and Maryan; brothers, Adolph (Jean), Louis (Ursula) and Walter; Sister, Sr Geraldine (Mary) O.S.B., as well as nieces and nephews and beloved friends.

Peter, the youngest of six children, was born on February 22, 1937, in Dobrowody, Saskatchewan.

Peter enjoyed a long career with Canadian National Railway from 1956 to 1991 and, after retiring, worked in real estate with Canada Trust and Coldwell Banker Realty from 1992 to 1997.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Fred Douglas Lodge and Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and compassion.

As per Peter’s request, cremation has taken place. A Mass of Celebration will be held in the Chapel at Holy Ghost Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue, Winnipeg on Friday, February 27th at 10:00 a.m. with Rosary at 9:30 a.m.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Worked with Peter for many years at the Crew Office in Room 240. Many fond memories! Rest in Peace - Posted by: Jim Kane (Co worker) on: Feb 17, 2026

  • Peter was on of my father's (Al Hintz) oldest and dearest friends. They began their CN careers together in Mikado SK training under Peter's brother Louis. Peter was indirectly responsible for my parents getting together. Peter and my Dad were to meet in Yorkton to attend a hockey game, when Peter had to work overtime. Dad met my mother and took her to a movie instead for their first date! We lost my father last June. On behalf of my father, I extend my deepest sympathies to the family. Rest in Peace Peter. - Posted by: Rod Hintz (son of a friend) on: Feb 14, 2026
