ALEXANDER ROBERT MOWAT

December 5,1946 - January 30, 2026

It is with profound sadness that the siblings of Alexander Robert Mowat announce his passing at the age of 79. Alex was predeceased by his younger brother David.

After a few years in a nursing home in Beausejour, Alex passed away in Selkirk Hospital in late January.

Alex is now in a better place and will be truly missed by siblings, Margaret, Don, Bill and Barbara. Alex worked for Manitoba Hydro and The City of Winnipeg and made many friendships throughout the years.

He was an avid curler and in his later years he could be found teaching and coaching curling. We love him and will miss him. May he rest in peace.

  • I have many fond memories of Alex during the many years that we worked together at The City of Winnipeg. Alex was a loyal and dedicated employee, and he took his position as the Safety Coordinator very seriously. He was also a wonderful Husband and Dad, and he loved his Wife and Daughters so very much! - Posted by: Ken Hayes (Friend) on: Feb 22, 2026

  • I am sorry to hear of Alex's passing. I grew up in the north end (Mountain and McPhillips area.) I attended school with both Alex and Charlene and can attest to the "love at first sight" that happened between them. My sincere condolences to their precious daughters Heather Joy and Tammy Jill. Know that your father has been reunited with his beloved Charlene and they rest in peace together. - Posted by: Anonymous (High school friend) on: Feb 21, 2026

  • I have been a friend of the Mowat Family for many years. I knew Alex from the City of Winnipeg where we were both employed. Also our association through the Elmwood Curling Club. Alex was a passionate family man first and also a champion curler, coach and a friend to many. Alex with his brothers and father were mainstays in the Elmwood Curling club. You could not meet a nicer person who was willing to help out his family and friends. I curled with most of the Mowats at one time or another, with the exception of Don Senior. Alex, brother Bill and friend Janine Smith ran a coaching clinic at Elmwood for many years. One of his most successful students was Reid Carruthers who is still benefiting from Alex’s coaching. Alex was a quiet person who. Was well respected for his work at the City and also in his coaching to future curlers. He will be missed. My condolences to his family. RIP Alex. - Posted by: Bob Maccallum (Friend) on: Feb 21, 2026
