Rene John Mauthe passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, after a long battle with cancer.
Rene was born in Gladstone, Manitoba and lived his early years in Plumas, MB. His education and career took him from university in Brandon, MB and London, ON, to Edmonton, AB where he held several positions in media, communications and freelance writing.
He is survived by his sisters, Lorraine, Norma, Jeannette, Donna (Keith), Lynne, Debra (Chuck), Becky, Tamara; his brother Ronald; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rene was predeceased by his parents, Reinhold and Frieda Mauthe; his sister Evelyn; his brother Ted; and brothers-in-law, Mike, Bert, Greg , Ted and sister-in-law Phyl.
Rene’s life was rich with a large group of friends and co-workers who he shared his passion for the outdoors, music, running, cross country skiing, mountains, fine scotch whisky and his beloved Montreal Canadians.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Details for a celebration of life will follow at a later date.
