It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Philip George Macmillan on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Brandon General Hospital, at 92 years of age. He was born in Hamiota on October 3, 1933.
Philip is survived by, and will always be lovingly remembered by, his daughter Phyllis (Brian) Lawrence; his granddaughters Elvi Shanks and Megan Nevin (Geoff); and his great-grandchildren Hayley Shanks (Jacob), Rylan Shanks, John, and Keith Nevin. He also leaves behind two lifelong friends he proudly called his brothers, Lance, and Dale Lidster, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Nancy, his twin brother Ed, and his sister Margaret.
Philip began working at the New System Store with the Cristall family at the age of 16. He remained there for more than 50 years, continuing even past retirement whenever he was needed. He loved his work and was well known and warmly regarded by generations of customers and community members.
A lifelong member of the Brandon Retriever Club, Philip was involved from its earliest days. He had a deep passion for training and running his Labrador retrievers in field trials across Canada and the United States, earning many wins over the years. He was also a respected field trial judge on both sides of the border.
Philip enjoyed bowling and curling, achieving an 8 Ender at the Riverview Curling Club in 1973. He loved cheering for the Blue Jays and the Raptors, watching tennis, and hearing every update about his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s activities. He was immensely proud of each of them.
In keeping with his wishes, a celebration of his life will be held privately with family at later date
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Brandon General Hospital for their care and compassion and to Claudia and the staff at Victoria Landing.
Donations in Philip’s memory may be made to the Brandon Humane Society or Funds for Furry Friends.
