ANN KILGOUR
With deep sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Ann Kilgour (nee Torley), cherished wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Left to mourn her are her children, Ian, Eileen (Barry), Maureen (Richard) and Colin (Kathleen); grandchildren, Graydon, Mitchell, Clare, Gillian, Callum and Kyla; and nieces and nephews in Ontario and abroad. Ann was predeceased by her beloved husband of nearly 67 years, David Kilgour; and siblings, Sean, Joe, Pat, Maura, Lucy, Denis, and Margaret, all of Scotland; as well as her parents, Mary and John Torley.
Ann was born in 1933 in Glasgow, Scotland, and despite enduring the deprivations and trauma of the Second World War, including the devastating Clydebank Blitz, she had fond memories of her childhood as part of a large family. After leaving school, Ann studied at the Glasgow School of Art before commencing work at British Railways as a comptometer operator. It was there that Ann met David, a young engineer, and a few years later she joined him in Canada where they married in 1958. Ann was employed in various positions in Winnipeg, and once her first child was born devoted her attention to raising her family and to community service in St. James.
Ann was extremely artistic and creative, expressing this through oil painting, sewing, embroidery, and many various crafts. Gardening was a particular passion, and Ann was especially proud of her wildflower garden at her Whiteshell cottage. She was also very active at the Wildewood Club, especially enjoying badminton, tennis, cross-country skiing and more recently, golf, for over 40 years with David and good friends. She even learned to downhill ski so she could accompany her children on their ski trips. In mid-life she enrolled at the University of Winnipeg. While managing a busy household she pursued her studies, ultimately graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991. It was a proud day for the Kilgour family.
Ann will be remembered for the ever-present twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes, mischievous smile and contagious laughter. She had boundless love for her family, including her beloved grandchildren, who always knew she was there for them. Ann was deeply generous and charitable, and her kindness and deep empathy had a huge impact on all who met her. She was highly social, always ready for a song and a dance. She remained wise, loving, young at heart, and a free spirit to the end.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at The Arbours at Linden Pointe, as well as Viviane Lenz and Ash Nfon, who were loyal companions to Ann during the past year.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
A celebration of her life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Sunday, March 15 at 2:00 p.m.

Our condolences to the Kilgour family on the loss of your mother. David and Anne were neighbours of ours at Jessica Lake for decades. We always enjoyed Anne’s sense of humour when she dropped by to chat. Both David and Anne will always be a part of our Jessica Lake memories. - Posted by: Gary McGimpsey (Neighbour) on: Mar 08, 2026
