ROMAN KOHOOT

It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Roman Kohoot at the age of 81.

Roman was born in Vita, Manitoba, in 1944 and was raised in Roseau River. He grew to be a man of deep faith who loved reading his Bible and spending time in prayer. Roman dearly loved his wife, Maria, and his family, and treasured the time spent with them. He enjoyed the outdoors and appreciated the beauty of nature. Known for his positive and caring spirit, as well as his warm sense of humor, Roman had a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

After studying at Steinbach Bible Institute, Roman dedicated much of his life to Christian camp ministry. He served faithfully for 23 years as a chef and food service manager. He later started his own catering business, serving conferences and events for over 30 years.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Sherbrook Centre Dialysis Unit for eight years of wonderful care and service. We also thank River West Pharmacy for their kindness and support.

Roman was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Kohut, and his stepfather, William Slusarchuk.

He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Maria, of 55 years; his sons, Timothy (Anna) and Paul (Urszula); his grandchildren; and his brothers and sisters, Walter, Adam, Eileen, and Elsie, along with their families.

A funeral service will be held on March 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Grant Church in Winnipeg, followed by burial at Roseau River Community Cemetery.

Roman will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Our sincere condolences to Maria and family. Whenever we saw Roman he always had a smile on his face! Even with his health issues, he was still joyful! Roman had a warm, welcoming personality and a great sense of humour. He used his God given ability to be a chef as a service to others. We could see this brought him so much joy! Our thoughts and prayers are with you! - Posted by: Gary & Marlene Cox (Friends) on: Mar 16, 2026

  • When Roman or Romeo as he jokingly called himself at times was part of the lean kidney exercise class at the Rehfit Centre, he was fun to be around. We even tried to play pickleball at times. Our class also enjoyed the food he prepared and brought for special luncheons, e.g., Christmas. He was missed when he stopped attending and started virtual exercising. - Posted by: Kent Morgan (Friend) on: Mar 15, 2026

  • I got to know Roman in the early 60's, and have never seen him after Bible School days, but I remember his warm, friendly personality, and his sense of humour! I am glad to know he had a happy life and devoted family, and loved God throughout his life. My sincere condolences to his wife and family! - Posted by: Elizabeth Rempel (Friend at Steinbach Bible Institute) on: Mar 14, 2026

  • My condolences to you, Maria, and to your family. I first met you and Roman at TOPS. Later, Roman catered a few of the Christmas parties that our Westwood Estates Social Club held at the Community Church on Westwood Drive. Everyone enjoyed the food and liked Roman immensely. Roman was a great mentor at TOPS and he was so devoted to you, Maria. We had so much fun at the TOPS conventions with both of you. I am very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Donna Friesen (friend from years ago) on: Mar 14, 2026
