JOSEPH CLIFFORD THOMAS

July 29, 1928 - May 2, 2026

It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of Joseph Clifford Thomas. Dad was predeceased by the love of his life Helen on April 13, 2013. They were married September 30, 1950, and had almost 63 years together. He deeply missed her and was looking forward to seeing her again.

Dad was so proud of his family. Every time we were together, he would say "I can't believe what an amazing family I have."

Dad worked for Braid’s, Labatt’s, Shell Oil, and a few others before joining Safeway in 1962 and working there until his retirement in 1991. After retirement he thoroughly enjoyed driving a double-decker bus for Paddlewheel Riverboats. He met tourists from all over the world.

Dad was a great mechanic and could fix anything. He could always be counted on to lend a helping hand. His last big project at 75 years old was helping rebuild a family cottage in Beausejour, which he and Mom enjoyed for many years.

Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling to visit family from Thunder Bay to Vancouver Island, as well as family trips to Mexico.

There was always time for parties, dancing, and laughter. He and Mom loved going to the St. Vital Legion and made many lifelong friends there, dancing the night away every Saturday.

Dad was loved by many and liked by everyone he met. He spent his last four years in Seine River Retirement Residence. He could not leave his apartment without being greeted with a joyful "Hi Joe!"

Dad was always a fan of the Blue Jays and curling, and in his later years he also followed the Bombers and the Jets.

His absence will be deeply felt by his children, Kathy Martina (Larry), Darlene Smith (Dave), Shelley Thomas (Rene Bertrand), and Joe (Judy); grandchildren, Jennifer (Ben), Jason (Elfie), Bryan, Shelley (Darren), Sheryl (Yanne), and Jesse (Jacqueline); great-grandchildren, Madison, Myles, Lyla, Colton, Teegan, Owen, and great-great-granddaughter Charlee.

We are truly grateful to the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Health Sciences Centre and Concordia Hospital. The family is planning a private ceremony.

Rest in peace Dad,

we know you are now with Mom

and that helps all our hearts to heal.
