JONATHAN DAN BOTTERILL
Jon, age 77, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and wisdom. Born in Edmonton and raised in Winnipeg, Jon spent the last 20 years of his life in Kelowna, where he embraced the beauty and lifestyle of the Okanagan.
Jon was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Edith, and his sisters, Judy and Cam.
Jon devoted more than 30 years to a successful career in financial planning. Throughout his career, Jon built many lasting relationships, clients often became lifelong friends, a reflection of the trust, care, and genuine interest he showed to everyone he met.
He had a deep love of research and was always eager to share his knowledge with others. Whether offering advice, encouragement, or support, Jon was happiest when helping those around him succeed.
Above all else, Jon treasured his family. He was their biggest cheerleader, always encouraging, teaching, and supporting those he loved most. He will be dearly missed for his guidance, encouragement and unwavering love. His absence will be deeply felt by his beloved wife, Janice; his children, Lindsay (Chris), Conner, Richard (Jackie), and Carly; and his grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered by his extended family, including his mother and father-in-law, brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, neices, and many dear friends.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the medical teams who cared for Jon over the years, and especially to the palliative care team whose compassion and support were instrumental during his final months. Jon and his family deeply appreciated the love and support shown by friends and family throughout his journey.
At Jon's request, a formal service will not be held. The family will gather privately to celebrate Jon's life and the lasting impact he had on all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice Association.

Jon was Rachell and my initial financial advisor and though we moved our investment assets away we have stayed vested in life insurance that he 'convinced' me a young 20 something who could not see the value in that... We both enjoyed his counsel and company... RIP.. - Posted by: Mark Simmons (Client) on: May 30, 2026

I’ve know Jon from the time my wife and son died in a car accident in June 1990. He handled my financial affairs and we would meet once or twice a year at what was then The Great West Life Center. I had great trust in Jon and he would spend a good hour or two with me each time explaining financial affairs. I enjoyed those conversations and missed them when he moved away. My thought and condolences to his family and extended family. He was most patient with me and we would discuss family members and relationships. I felt very comfortable with him. Jon was such a nice guy. He sure liked to talk. My sound financial status is because of Jon. Usually it was talk about his boat my cars or family's then a little about the finances then I left and he took care of my concerns. It was only lately I was thinking about him and was going to try to connect and see how he was doing. My condolences to his wife kids and grandchildren and family he was a great man. We are so sorry to hear of Jon's passing. My deepest sympathies to Janice, Lindsey and Connor. Jon helped my mom with her finances when my dad suddenly passed away and then took us as clients when mom suddenly left us a short time later. He was more than our financial advisor, he was true friend. He made time to listen and gave expert advise. We will always remember our Kelowna visit. - Posted by: Amber and Andrew Griffiths (Client and friend) on: May 28, 2026

My sincere condolences to Janice, and to Jon’s children and their families. Jon was a great help to my late husband Ron Milne and I with his financial guidance and friendship. He was very supportive when my husband Ron passed away and I really felt he was doing his best to make sure my children and I were looked after financially. He was friendly and easy to talk to, and made you feel like he was really “in your corner”. He was a proud family man and delighted in talking about his kids. I’m sure he was a great friend to many. I have no doubt that he will be missed by all that had the privilege to know him. A life well lived. Rest in peace Jon. - Posted by: Georgia Valentonis (formerly Milne) (Client) on: May 28, 2026

I’m so sorry to hear of Jon’s passing! My condolences to the whole family. Jon helped us with our finances over many years as he did for my late parent's. We wouldn’t have done nearly as well without Jon. He and my dad (Murray) would have long conversations about boats and cars as well as finances! Jon did not hesitate to spend extra time asking about family and just life. He always spoke very highly of his family. - Posted by: Barbara Campbell (Friend) on: May 25, 2026

I am so sorry to hear of Jon’s passing. When I was a teenager in Winnipeg, I was a competitive squash player. Jon became my coach on a volunteer basis. He even travelled to support me in tournaments around Canada. He was extremely dedicated and patient. I learned a lot from him and have always been grateful for his time. I hope he knew how much that meant to me. -Celine Peacock (Metraux) - Posted by: Celine Metraux (Squash student) on: May 23, 2026

Jon took my wife Cathy and I under his wing when my 35 year airline career ended, and it was the best financial thing that happened to us. I wish I had a chance to thank him so much, Cathy has left so god speed from me alone. - Posted by: David Dickie (customer) on: May 23, 2026
