It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Romeo Choquette, aged 98, at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface, on Friday, May 29, 2026.
Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife Isabelle on April 21, 2026; his parents, Wilfred and Delina (nee Lapierre); siblings, Beatrice (Harvey Lepine), Adrien, Adrienne (James Porter), Gerard (Freda), Thaddeus, Edmond, Jeanne (Leslie Harju), Rita (Victor Rowley) and Marie (Douglas Rowley). He will be mourned and remembered by his loving children, Gerald (Brenda), Denys (Johanne), Giselle (Warren) Luky, and David (Erin); grandchildren, Jared (Katrine), Amanda (Taylor), Tricia (Chris), Danyka (Corey), Colin, Megan (Brayden), Devan (Reanne); great-grandchildren, Mia, Emma, Olivia, Summer, Zoey, Easton, Noah and Rosalie.
Dad was born on a farm in Mariapolis, MB on July 30, 1927. Ater the age of six, he was raised, attended school, and farmed for 15 years in Glenora, MB. He also hauled cream for Belmont Creamery, which led to his meeting his wife, Isabelle. They were married on July 26, 1958, and she remained his cherished sweetheart until her recent passing. They made their home in Winnipeg, raising their four children with affection and concern. He welcomed his children-in-law into the family and was delighted in the arrival of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his family unconditionally, supported all their efforts, and felt blessed that he had the opportunity to see their growth and development.
Dad held many and varied positions during his working career, primarily as a shipper/receiver and truck driver. Retiring in 1990, he enjoyed a long and healthy retirement. In summer, with his coffee cup never very far away, he was happiest sitting in the backyard watching his garden grow. In winter, he enjoyed watching sports on TV, as well as playing animated card games with family and friends. Dad was blessed with a lifelong passion for music and “old tyme” dance. For many years he helped Mom teach line and pattern dance classes. Brisk walks and jigging for an hour every day into his 90s, was the medicine that kept him spry and young at heart.
A private family service will be held to honor Romeo’s life.
Memorial Donations may be made in Romeo’s name to St. Boniface Street Links.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Residence Despins and Actionmarguerite St. Boniface for their care and compassion.
