VERN JOHN TAYLOR

1946 - 2026

Vern John Taylor, a devoted father, loyal friend, and steady, grounding presence to all who knew him, was born on October 8, 1946, in Giroux, Manitoba, and passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026. His 79 years were marked by strength, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved.

One of Vern’s greatest joys was being a passionate supporter of his children’s and grandchildren’s sports. He never missed a game and took immense pride in every accomplishment, big or small. Vern was always willing to lend a hand, offer rides, and be the loudest fan in the building or on the field.

Outside of cheering on his family, Vern found joy in golf and baseball, and spending time with his pets, especially his beloved Border Collie Scott, who was never far from his side. He also had a deep passion for listening to music and loved going for long drives with his travelling companion Shirley, moments that brought him peace, connection, and simple joy. He especially loved his weekly golf games with “the guys,” a tradition that brought him laughter, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging. In retirement, he even took a job as a golf course marshall so he could spend more time at the course he loved.

Family was the center of Vern’s world. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley, his sister Heather, his daughter Melaney (Dax), his son Craig (Carole), his five grandchildren Andrew, Kyle, Josh, Sienna, and Dom, and his many nieces and nephews, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. The lessons he passed on to them, the value of hard work, the importance of honesty, and the quiet power of kindness, will continue to guide them for the rest of their lives.

Vern is also remembered by extended family and friends who will forever hold his memory close. He is predeceased by his parents John and Margaret, his sister Iris, his brother-in-law Eddie, his father-in-law Eddie, his mother-in-law Mae, and his grandson Billy.

A celebration of Vern’s life will be scheduled later this summer, allowing family members living away the opportunity to gather together in his honour.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Waverley, where Vern called home for the past three years, and to the staff at Poseidon Personal Care, who, even though his stay was short, provided such compassionate and attentive care in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba in Vern’s honour.
