PATRICIA JOAN SEDUN

January 18, 1940 - June 10, 2026

Peacefully, with her daughters at her bedside, Pat Sedun passed away at Charleswood Care Home on June 10, 2026, at the age of 86 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Alec and Julia Nickolychuk (Nickey) and son-in-law Ed Skinner. She will be deeply missed by her three daughters, Nicki Skinner (Jordan, Keelan, Taran), Karen Panabaker (Tom, Robert, Lauren), and Cathryn “Boo” Bingham (Bee, Bella), and her cousin Shirley and brother-in-law Len Sedun.

Pat grew up on a mink ranch just north of Gimli. Her father was her teacher at a small schoolhouse, where she accelerated her learning to graduate from high school ahead of her peers. Pat went on to attend the University of Manitoba in the faculty of Pharmacy, being one of only two women in the program at the time. While at university, she met Orest Sedun and they married soon afterwards and started their life together in Winnipeg. Pat worked hard to help support Orest while he completed his studies in architecture, while starting to build their family.

Pat was a force. She was a gourmet cook and entertainer, always hosting parties and family get-togethers. She was very involved in her community, a devoted volunteer, and a fun-loving Nana to her grandchildren, and aunt to her many nephews and nieces. Family will always remember her pranks on Auntie Lil and shenanigans at Grey Cup celebrations. Pat loved watching and participating in curling and was an avid sports fan in general, especially tennis. She loved watching her grandsons play sports and granddaughter at dance recitals. Pat was also a brilliant gardener, who enjoyed making her home and town of Gimli a beautiful landscape of flowers for everyone to enjoy. In her later years, she was also a member of the Gimli Bell Ringers at the Gimli Lutheran Church.

Pat was a well-respected and hard-working pharmacist, both in Winnipeg and in Gimli, where she eventually retired. Her co-workers knew her for always going the extra mile to help others, and of course, for her infamous Hallowe’en costumes and pranks.

Pat will be deeply missed by her daughters, grandchildren, extended relatives, and friends. We would like to thank the staff of Charleswood Care Home for their kindness and compassion during her last months. A private family celebration of her life will be held in the fall. In lieu of flowers and mom’s love for her dogs, donations are welcome to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
