MONTCALM (MONTY) RONALD SCHWABE

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Montcalm "Monty" Ronald Schwabe, on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the age of 76.

Monty is lovingly remembered by his wife of 12 years, Chayakorn "Ray" Kampeera, who was his devoted partner and companion; his son, Jason (Collette); his daughter, Tara; his brother, Bill (Heather); and his sister, Linda (Orville). He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Calen, Cadyn, Sydney, Jena, William, and Alice. He took great pride in following their athletic pursuits and valued every opportunity to spend time with them.

He was predeceased by his parents, Lily Emma (Steven) Schwabe and Alfred Anton Schwabe; and by his sister, Eleanor St. Germain.

Monty dedicated over 40 years to education as a teacher, guidance counsellor, and coach, inspiring students in both Winnipeg and China. He believed in encouraging others to reach their potential and found great fulfillment in mentoring young people throughout his career.

Never one to shy away from adventure, Monty embraced life with enthusiasm. In his younger years, he enjoyed skydiving and scuba diving and was an avid athlete who participated in rugby, football, baseball, basketball, handball, and several other sports.

Later in life, Monty found deep happiness with his wife Ray. Together, they spent winter months in Thailand, embracing its culture and building a life filled with meaningful experiences and lasting memories. Their life together was also marked by the simple joys of gardening, feeding the birds, observing wildlife, and sharing quiet evenings around the bonfire.

Above all, Monty felt most at peace outdoors. He treasured the time he spent helping his brother Bill on the farm and relaxing at the family cottage near Kenora, where fishing, the beauty of nature, and the company of family and lifelong friends brought him lasting happiness.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Monty's longtime lake friends, Claudia Bridges and Grant Smith, for their kindness, friendship, and support over the years.

Monty will be remembered for his generous heart, adventurous spirit, unwavering encouragement of others, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 30, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Norwood Hotel in Winnipeg (112 Marion Street).
