Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Deepest condolences to the family. He was always a mentor and role model for me during our years at Southwood G & CC. He will be missed by many. - Posted by: Kit Grant (Friend) on: Jul 16, 2026

  • My deepest condolences to Lois and family on the recent passing of Gavin. I first met Gavin in the early '60's through hockey and then golf at Southwood G & CC. He was a good hockey player and indeed an excellent golfer. During that period we did share lots of laughs, beers, and some crazy fun at the occasional party or at the beach.. Throughout it all Gavin was the ultimate gentleman and friend and truly a class act all the way. He will certainly be missed by all who knew him. - Posted by: Henry Goy (Friend) on: Jul 13, 2026

  • The California Girls, a hockey Mothers group, wish to extend our sincere condolences to our dear friend Lois and to Rob and Adam and their families. Many people knew Gavin through his association with golf, but we knew him through hockey. He was the coach of our sons’ Varsity View hockey team. Gavin was a big man, but always soft spoken and kind. The boys thrived under his coaching, and eventually won the ten year old city championship in their league. Those boys turn 51 this year, and still have fond memories of their time with Coach Speirs. It was not however just the players who benefited from Gavin’s welcoming and accepting attitude, but the parents as well who became a cohesive group who thoroughly enjoyed their time with Gavin’s team. Friendships were made which have lasted over 40 years, and contain many cherished memories of the team and team events. Thank you Gavin for the role you played in all our lives, you will be dearly missed Coach Speirs, our old friend Gavin. - Posted by: California Girls (Friend) on: Jul 12, 2026

  • Gavin was truly a great person, so kind , generous and devoted to his loving family. We have such fond memories of our trips together with Lois & Gavin which included Vegas and Mexico, Mont Tremblant and Ottawa . Gavin was such an accomplished golfer &!hockey player but never focused on himself . However , what really mattered to Gavin was the wellbeing of his wife , sons/daughter in laws and grandchildren. Gavin spoke with such pride of all his grandchildren and their accomplishments. We will remember Gavin with fondness and love. Gavin set the BEST example of how to live a life with love & purpose. - Posted by: Terry & Marilyn Cooper (Brother- in -law) on: Jul 11, 2026

  • I first met Gavin when I was a caddy at Glendale Golf & Country Club in the early sixties & Gavin worked in the pro shop. I couldn't believe anybody could hit a golf ball that far & have it hook over an adjacent fairway & have the ball land in the intended fairway. It was sad & shocking to hear of Gavin's passing. May the good Lord hold you in his arms & offer comfort to your loved ones. - Posted by: RON MACKENZIE (Admirer) on: Jul 11, 2026
