GRACE LAZAR
Grace Lazar (nee Burgess) died peacefully at the Briton House in Toronto on July 8, 2026. She was born on Dec 27, 1926, in Strathclair, Manitoba the third of four children. She married Sam Lazar (deceased 2009) in 1950. They had two children, Janice Kardel (Fred) and Neil (Sherrill Miller). Part-time private duty nursing eventually led to full-time employment at Middlechurch Nursing Home. By the time she retired in 1992 she held the position of Director of Nursing at Middlechurch. She had a passion for caring for the elderly and for activities such as curling, travel and golf. Family barbecues held every summer at the family home on Lorne Hill Road created fond memories for all. In addition to her two children, she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her five granddaughters. Her four great-grandchildren arrived at a time in her life when she was less capable of expressing joy. Donations in her memory can be made to a charity of your choice. Interment at Bnay Abraham Cemetery Sunday, July 12, 2026, at noon. Her family would like to recognize and thank the staff on the 9th floor at Briton House for the exemplary care provided to Grace during the last years of her life.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Aunty Grace. We have many fond memories of her and Uncle Sam. Every time I drive past Lorne Hill Rd it reminds me of them and those summer BBQs . I have fond memories of the annual Bbq at Grace and Sam’s .. they lived across our baba and Zaida . We spent every Sunday at the farm . I played with Janice mostly . We would help baba with shelling peas and other chores at the farm . My mother Hilda was very close to Sam and I remember their daily phone calls . Grace helped my mother with all the holiday meals .
