It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William "Bill" Stewart, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 14, 2026, at the age of 82.
Bill lived a life marked by hard work, laughter, optimism, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was born and raised in Transcona, where he spent his life surrounded by family and friends, including his lifelong best friend - his sister, Myrna.
For 35 years, Bill worked as an electrician with CN Rail, eventually retiring as a supervisor. Retirement never truly slowed him down. During the summer months, he enjoyed working as a golf course marshal at Grand Pines, where his family affectionately nicknamed him "Deputy Dog."
Bill had an extraordinary sense of humour and a remarkable ability to find the positive in any situation. Always ready with a joke, he brought joy to everyone around him. His gift for storytelling, laughter, and finding happiness in everyday moments made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of 20 years, Heather Stewart, and by his longtime partner, Gerry Busch, with whom he shared many cherished years.
He leaves behind his loving children, Ross (Terri) and Colleen (Matt); his sister, Myrna (Harry); his nephew, Jeff (great-nieces, Sarah and Madi) and niece, Ali (Barry and great-nephew Blake) and the greatest joys of his life, his five grandchildren: Taylor, Olivia (Landen), Lauren, Maya, and Drew.
While Bill took pride in many accomplishments throughout his life, none meant more to him than being "Papa." His grandchildren were his proudest legacy. He taught them to laugh at themselves, embrace life's lighter moments, and always find humour in the world around them. Each of them carries countless unforgettable - and often hilarious - "Papa stories," memories that will continue to be shared, retold, and treasured for generations to come.
Bill will be remembered as a man whose love was constant and whose optimism was inspiring. Though he will be deeply missed, the laughter he shared and the love he gave so freely will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A private Celebration of Life will be taking place with immediate family. Thank you to our friends and family for your love, support and condolences.
