MINNIE JEAN ANDERSON

(nee GOSSFELD)

July 21, 1939 - July 13, 2026

Minnie Jeannie Anderson passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, at the Lynn Lake Hospital in Manitoba. She was 86 years old. Her family was by her side.

Minnie was a wife, mother, grandmother, in-law and friend who will be deeply missed. She is survived by her eight children: William, Keith (Bertha), Melvin (Myrna), Dennis (Lisa), Vernon (Tammy), Sandra, Lianna, and Hilda (Andrew). She also leaves behind her brother, Alec Gossfeld, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Minnie’s life was not without sadness. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill, and three of her children: Dawn, Carol, and Burnell. She also lost two grandchildren, Devin, James, and great-grandchildren, Pesim and Stella.

Minnie was born and raised in Wabowden, Manitoba. As a young woman, she often visited her grandparents at Setting Lake. At the age of 16, she met Bill Anderson. Two years later, at 18, she moved with him to South Indian Lake, where they began their life together. Bill worked as a commercial fisherman and trapper. Minnie and Bill raised their family on the land, living a traditional lifestyle. Minnie worked hard preparing and storing fresh fish, wild game, and waterfowl harvested by Bill and their sons to feed their family. Throughout the years Minnie, Bill and their children called South Indian Lake and Leaf Rapids, Manitoba home.

Family was everything to Minnie. She was a devoted mother who always supported her children with Bill by her side. Her face would light up whenever her grandchildren came to visit. Minnie was a loving person who always wanted the best for everyone in her family and community. She was happiest when she was with her loved ones or out on the land, taking part in traditional harvesting.

Minnie had a very large family. In total, she had 105 direct descendants: 11 children, 33 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Minnie’s family would like to send a special thank you to Unity Healthcare for making Health Care Aide services possible in Leaf Rapids and Dr. Braido and staff at the Lynn Lake Hospital for their diligent medical oversight with Minnie over the past four years.

Minnie always said, when someone gives you a hard time, “just smile and wink at them” and if you have to, run fast.

Details about the Winnipeg viewing, and wake and funeral in Leaf Rapids will be shared on family social media pages soon.

Rest in peace mom, wife, sister, granny,

in-law, aunty and friend.
