PETER T. HENDERSON After a lengthy battle with cancer, Peter Henderson age 71 years passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital. Peter was born on June 25, 1928 in Dovhe, Ukraine region of Boykiwchyna. He immigrated to Canada on June 4, 1951, and eventually made Winnipeg his home. He received his certificate of Military Qualification in 1956. He served with the Armed Forces till 1979, where he played the French Horn with the Air Command Band. He received the United Nations Service Medal, Canadian Centennial Medal, and the Canadian Forces Decoration, and Clasp. He won several awards for marksmanship in the 1970s while he belonged to the Winnipeg Base Pistol Club of the Canadian Forces. Peter loved Classical music all his life, and he was able to perform with various bands around Winnipeg for 20 years, On May 19, 1962 Peter married Joan (nee McCarthy). He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Joan; children, Peter and wife Gail, Mariyka Kapty and husband Ted, and Michael and numerous relatives in the Ukraine. Panakhyda will be sung on Thursday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, October 15, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Basils Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt St. Rev. Fr. Isidore Dziadyk officiating. Interment Assumption Cemetery. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Daeninck, and the nursing staff of St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit for all their care and support. Special thanks to Fr. Gerald Michaud, and to Rev. Fr. Isidore Dziadyk for all their prayers, and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Manitoba Cancer and Research Foundation.
