MARY FILIPOWICH Mary Filipowich of Winnipeg, formerly of Brandon, died unexpectedly on October 14, 1999 as a result of an accident. Mary was born and resided in the Hyas, Saskatchewan area. She married John Filipowich in 1935 and after living a short time in Pelly, Saskatchewan and Swan River, Manitoba, moved to Brandon, Manitoba. During the 28 years that she lived in Brandon, she was a member of St. Marys Ukrainian Greek Catholic Parish. In 1975, Mary moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where she lived with her daughter and family until 1986, at which time she made Holy Family Nursing Home, her home. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1965; her son Russell; parents Julia and George Moroz; and brothers Frank, John, Steve and Ed. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Brolund; her son-in-law, Jay Brolund; her grandchildren, Ryan and Amber; her sister Anne Gorenko and many nieces and nephews. For 50 years, Mary struggled courageously with arthritis, spending the last 30 years in a wheelchair. Even though she required increasing assistance over the years, she maintained remarkable independence, enjoyed life and continued to be active on the nursing home resident council, at the canteen, etc. The family wishes to thank the staff of Holy Family Nursing Home for the loving care and assistance. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Prayers will be held at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg, on Monday, October 18, at 8:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Josephs Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Avenue, Winnipeg, on Tuesday, October 19, at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Father Boris Kyba. Interment will be held at the Brandon Cemetery later that afternoon at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3R6 or to the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities Inc. (Wheelchair Services), 1111 Winnipeg Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0S2. Arrangements are in care of Brockie Donovan Funeral Home, Brandon, 1-800-897-5694. Miss Me, But Let Me Go When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in gloom filled room Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long And not with your head bowed low Remember the love that we once shared Miss me, but let me go. For this journey we all must take And each must go alone Its part of the Masters plan A step on the road to home. So when you are lonely and sick at heart Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds Miss me........but let me go.
