JOHANNES (JOHN) THEODORUS WILHELMUS van OVERDYK Johannes (John) Theodorus Wilhelmus van Overdyk passed away peacefully at home in Calgary, AB surrounded by his loving wife and children on October 26, 1999 at the age of 68 years after a short but courageous battle with cancer. John will be deeply missed by his wife Vinnia and his children, daughters, Willi Scott, Liz (Frank) Amantea, and Jeannette (Randy McIntyre) Van Overdyk and sons, John Jr. (Kim Fergusson), Malcolm, and Robert (Marissa), all of Calgary; grandchildren, Trevor (Denise), Karen (Kyle), David, Teri, Daniel, Faith, Christopher, Christopher, Deidre, Nathan, Brandon, Kaitlin, Tia, and Ashlyn; great-grandchildren, Johannes and Jordan; foster children, Jesse, Roger, Kaylin and Sky and numerous other young people over the years. He is also survived by his brother Theo van Overdijk of Ontario and sisters, Riet (Bernard) Damen and Liz (Dave) Gottfred, both of Winnipeg. John will be fondly remembered by relatives in Holland, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and special friends. John was born on August 14, 1931 in Boxtel, raised in sHertogenbosch, Holland and immigrated to Winnipeg in 1956. Before and after moving to Calgary in 1969, John had a successful career in the home improvement industry. Funeral services were held in Calgary on Friday, October 29. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society.
