NINA DVORACEK Nina Dvoracek born May 3, 1945, passed away suddenly in Thornhill, Ontario, December 9, 1999 at the age of 54 years. Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia to Vladimir and Augustine Pomahac. Nina lived in Prague till 1969 at which time her parents encouraged her to leave Prague. She spent six months in Austria and then immigrated to Canada, arriving January 14, 1970 settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Not long after arriving in Winnipeg Nina met Tom Dvoracek and they married on November, 1970 till 1984. Nina and Tom had two sons, Tom and Ben. During 1982 and 1983, Nina shared her talents with others at the Wildwood Country Club were she used her badminton skills, learned while being a member of the Czechoslovakian National Badminton team. After 1984 Nina worked in various term positions at Burroughs Canada, until securing full time employment with Boeing Aircraft, starting in maintenance and then building airplane parts. The work at Boeing Aircraft was very repetitious and on December 8, 1994 Nina went on Workmens Compensation having damaged both her elbows. Nina went back to Boeing for short periods of time from 1995 until 1997. On October 16, 1999 Nina left Winnipeg to live in Toronto to be with her partner Carol. Nina was on Compensation and hoped she would be able to find some medical relief for her elbows, so she could get on with her life doing work she loved most, that of working and creating with her hands. Nina was a wonderful Mother and friend. She will be truly missed by her two sons, Tom and Ben; her former husband Tom Dvoracek; her partner Carol Robertson; her Father and Mother Vladimir and Augustine Pomahac who still live in Prague, Czechoslovakia; her sister and brother-in-law, Marcella and Fausto Gardoni who reside in Italy; her long time friends, Gita Petrak, Paul Petrak, Mr. and Mrs. Tyc (Babi and Deda), Wendy Mandryk, and Tracy Kibsey. Her two sons, Tom and Ben Dvoracek wish to announce that a Memorial Service will be held at the Southside Golf Centre in their outside Arbour (dress warmly), on December 16, at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow on the property. Directions to Southside Golf Centre: South on Lagimodiere, past the floodway.
